It's going to be a new nightclub, very similar to Piggy's. Concerts, a restaurant, etc. Probably won't have the sports bar thing going, though. Otherwise it sounded very similar to what Piggy's does. A friend of a friend is doing it, so my info is second hand. But that's the intention, anyways.

LOL! I can't remember if they said they got all of the necessary permits yet, or not. If not, they may have to adjust their plans.

Another bar ehhh ? Hmmmm .. seems like a large investment when bars are having a hard time staying open? Maybe the Cherry Masters are coming back haha !!! And they would be very close to Piggys, which may not be a bad idea, give your customers another choice. I think centennial wireless should look into moving there, they have the worst parking and it's hard to get in and out, especially in the " laker months " .... horray to new adventures i say ... more power to them .... just my two cents

It's a big building.... the whole thing is going to be a nightclub? I heard that Buffalo Wild Wings was coming in there. Maybe we are hearing the same thing.

I just talked to the mutual acquaintance that I have with the people involved and they confirmed that it's their understanding that it is supposed to be a nightclub and the targeted grand opening is New Year's Eve 2009.

That'll be a HUGE club. Do you think the area will support it? maybe something else will be in there with them. The summer months would be ok I think but I don't think the area will support it in the winter

I'm friends with "Piggy" of Piggy's and he always told me how hard it was to make money in that business, especially in small markets like this. Making a profit was just plain hard to do. So no, I don't see it succeeding, unless they do something totally different that catches people's interest, somehow. The key to success is to find a need, and then fill that need. This is not filling a need locally, at this time. As far as holding concerts goes, there are only so many times you can book the Freak Brothers, lol. :thrasher:

ETA: They want to have a restaurant in there with them, much like Piggy's and Las Limas. If they find a hot restaraunt, that could make it work. If they could franchise something well-known like a Buffalo Wild Wings, then it's a whole new ballgame, I think.

Bingo. Since Piggy's got rid of their golf simulators, I have zero need to go there. With a space the size of the building they've got, they could put in a sports complex, maybe some indoor soccer... But another bar? Hey, I likes me some bars, but we've already got some.

But not any that I like. A concert club would be cool. Not a skips but something good!

Starting to look like a Lowes

The roof line does resemble a Lowes, but there isn't enough parking.

I had heard from City Hall that their might be some retail in the building, also.

As far as liquor permits go, Angola is above its limit for certain types of licenses, but because there are existing permits, we are grandfathered in. It all depends on the type of permit sought. Otherwise, the facility would have to buy an existing permit from an existing facility or a license held by someone else. For example, when the Town House burned down and the restaurant and bar went away, so to speak, its liquor license didn't. It was transferred to another entity in town, with some cash exchanged, of course. It is complicated in Indiana.

This is why it is easier to open up a beer joint out in the county than in city limits.

As far as opening for New Years of 2009 (don't you mean 2008) this is quite a ways off. Shoot, Kohl's is expecting to open in the fourth quarter of this year and they've only started moving dirt. I suppose when you factor in the fact that this new building incorporates the old Honer Mfg. building, you could get into some difficulties. Ah, the joys of remodeling.

Its a great way to decrease drunk driving accidents.

Wait.... increase. Not... not that other thing...

I just thought that all the liquor permits were "taken" by other entities. the resulting "buy" would prove a big start up cost for a new club. I am glad to see that someone has used an old vacant building ( as there are a bunch of them) rather than building a new one.:ridinghorse:

ANGOLA — Contrary to rumors, a former industrial building in Angola is being remodeled to a commercial and office complex.

The building, located at 202 E. Harcourt Road, just east of Aldi’s, is owned by Garman Properties.

Dude, this IS 2008! 2009 would be the next New Year's.

As far as the new revelation as to it's intended use, as I said, my info was from a mutual aquaintance of someone who's been telling everyone he and his partners are the ones who own it and are turning it into a bar. So my best guess is, the person who's been going around telling people this information is a pathological liar and was just trying to sound like a big shot, and probably never even owned the property! :stupid:

I apologize for inadvertantly passing along bad info. I can only imagine what an idiot this person is feeling like today, now that everyone knows the truth. But I will look into it and see just really happened, or at least what their new story is. :elefant:

New Year's Day or New Year's Eve - "New Year's" is pretty ambiguous, don't you think?

Hey!!! No giving away our Steak n Shake. I don't need another Applebees clone. Now, I'll trade our Applebees and our SnS for Bennegins or anybody willing to put up a halfway decent private label BBQ joint in ANY of the 4 counties up here, I'm not picky.

You say you aren't picky, but it is my experience that any discussion of BBQ ends up in a war over which style is "real BBQ" (e.g. Carolina, Texas, Memphis, KC, etc.).

As compared to NO BBQ, you are right, I'm not picky. When given a choice, sure I'm a bit particular. While I am more particular to the KC styles myself, I'd eat any of the others given the current selection.

I'll admit, I got spoiled by the food choices in the last place I lived. How many towns of approx. 10k people, in Indiana do you know of that have award winning BBQ, great Cajun food, good mexican/southwest, and killer private label pizza.

Anyone by any chance know what's going in, across the street (Harcourt) from Northlake Manor/"brick city", on the land owned by shell-(I think)?

It's owned by Sheets. Haven't heard whats going on with it though. I think it's getting cleaned out for a road extension.

So get this....the source of the rumors that it was going to be a club is a 24 year old guy who works 3rd shift at Wal-Mart!!!!! He had been telling anyone and everyone that he and his "partners" bought it and were turning it into a nightclub. Needless to say, he was not a likely candidate for entrepreneurship, and now that the truth has come out, he's been keeping to himself as people are not real thrilled with him and more or less make fun of the whole thing. Unreal.

Thanks Tim; ya, I meant Sheets but was thinking shell, dah:) Yep, it's gonna be a road extension, once they finally clear out all the trees they've been cutting down. It's also rumored that they may have dug too deep in the main area and hit a nearby spring or something--ooops:)

I beg to differ - the other half of the battle is eating a half dozen Blazin' wings (back in my day, when it used to be called BW3, the hottest wings were called atomic).

I can't stand the smoke, so I'm relegated to the teeny side of the place.

We've actually stopped going there because it takes 30 minutes to get a seat during the weekend. I wouldn't want to know the wait over the weekend or on a game night.

BTW, the Blazin' wings are my favorite to eat. Delish.

Hey Tim:) Long time no see; how ya been, man? Oh yeah, Sheets, that's right (hey I got the s right, anyway-lol). Yep, it's gonna be a road extension; kinda confused on where exactly it's suppose to come out at though.:hmmmm: Doesn't look like they're makin too much progress, unless they're waiting for summer (understandable, better weather)....but if they keep at this rate, I'm predicting it might be done by 2020-just kiddin! Eeewww; that's gonna make for a one-way in and out of Northlake for awhile, that oughta be fun....NOT! LOL
