I have Wildblue service now. Does anyone know anything about Wildblue vs. Hughesnet vs. Meta Link. I am very unhappy with Wildblue and considering other options. I would love to know your opinions on these services or any other options that I may not know about. Obviously, I live in an area where I can not get high speed without a satellite.

I've had been checking on Wildblue and then the Hughesnet just today since my DSL service was oddly disrupted for a few days...I just decided to hang in there with what I got (Verizon) for now.

I have Meta link. No complaints.

I have NOT however, had wildblue or Hughesnet.

My parents have meta link and are happy with it. It will cut out in unfavorable weather although so will any satellite link.

I think that they have a couple of different levels of service, which one do you have and are you happy with the speed, if I may ask?

I have Wildblue. I also do not like the service but I really have no other option. I contacted Hughes some time in the past, and they did not service this area at that time.

I have the 1.5mps down (highest level) and it runs about $80 a month with a two year contract. I live West of Rome City on the West Lake's chain (Steinbarger Lake).

I do not have a problem with reception very often, but for 80 bucks a month I should be able to capture about 5mps down.

It is very expensive, but it is about 40 times faster then my phone line, and web sites keep adding more and more graphics. I hate the News Suns website, takes such a long time to just open the home page. I wish the website developers were limited to a slow connection like I have.

I live within 3 miles of a Verizon switchbox, but from what I understand the equipment required to supply me and my other 19 lake buddies DSL service would cost about $27,000 to install in the switchbox. (just from talking with actual Verizon employees)

Ligtel (Ligioneer Telephone Company) offers high speed wireless in my area. I am unable to utilize the service because the equipment is "Line of Site" (tower must be able to see antenna), and I am down in a low area, near the lake. People who are higher then me in the lake area can receive the wireless signal. I have talked and talked to Ligtel about putting some sort of additional connection tower around here to serve us. NOT HOLDING MY BREATH

I tried a Centennial wireless antenna (USB port) early in 2008, after I was assured by Centennial that the connection was "High Speed" (40 times faster then dial-up), and the cost was a reasonable 44 bucks a month with a two year contract. I soon discovered that the Centennial sales staff will tell you anything to close a sale. After calling Centennials own IT staff, I was affirmed in my new found knowledge that the service was actually slower then dial up. Seems that Centennial uses U.S. Sprints towers which are not equiped with high speed equipment in this area but will be in the next 10 or so years.

After two months of fighting with Centennial, my contract was finally closed, and accounts (money) were closed to my satisfaction after the third month.

Its hard for me to believe that I cant get high speed for a reasonable price. Such is life and nobody cares. Nice to see the new fiber optic high speed transmission lines that Verizon has just installed at the the intersection of U.S. 6 and S.R. 9. Nope, they are not going to bring them to me, I already asked.

The connection we have here at KPC isn't THAT speedy; nor is my Ligtel at home.

A Web site redesign and a switch to a new Web host are coming in the short term; we're hoping both will provide significantly better page load times.

I have struggled and struggled with Wildblue, I still have issues but I changed from Internet Explorer to Firefox and OMGosh it is so much faster, that is all that I did. I love everything about Firefox, why did I not think of this before? I have wasted hours upon hours waiting for pages to load, etc. I still am missing emails that people send to me, mostly with attachments and Wildblue just tells me that there is nothing on the server, well, I know that but why aren't emails coming through? Also on my admin page it says I have 32 emails in my inbox, there is nothing on the server, they can't explain that, either. I have never reached a tech that could answer any of my questions.

I use Mediacom internet connections to KPC from Spencerville.

We have pretty fair transmission speed from here. It doesn't match the speed I had while I had my office in Ft. Wayne, however, it is something I can work with from here.

Just an fyi.

I just thought I would let everyone know about another service that is available for high speed internet. Locl.net in Angola has DSL service with or without a home phone, and also they have some wireless internet out there for areas that can't get DSL. If enough people in an area wants some high speed internet, if there is enough interest, they research that area to see if they can put up some high speed internet. Which is cool for people who can't get DSL. And how nice is it not to have to have a home phone to get high speed internet, and to be able to save that money. Hope this info helps someone out there. I looked up their number in case anyone out there wants it 1-877-456-2563. :)
