He passed too early for me. I'll miss him.

Wow, what a shame. ELO is one of the first albums I ever remember my older sister buying with "her very own money" and we loved it. What a great band and a huge loss for the music industry.

That is a shame.
While I certainly don't feel the impact of such a loss as I did when John Lennon or George Harrison died, ELO is certainly an incredibly talented group who produced absolutely amazing music.
The funny thing is it wasn't until this past year after getting their greatest hits album did I realize that I have been a huge fan all my life, having not been aware that so many songs they did were ones I had loved.
Though, I did feel dumb learning they were singing "Telephone Lines" and not "Terrible Lies".
But, did you know that originally they WEREN'T singing "Bruce" in "Don't Bring Me Down"?
Per Wikipedia:
A common mondegreen in the song is the perception that, following the title line, Jeff Lynne shouts "Bruce!" However, according to liner notes, he is actually saying a made-up word "Grroosss". This is similar to a German word for "greeting", Gruß possibly referring to the Bavarian greeting Grüß Gott the group would have heard while recording the album in Munich. However, after the song's release, so many people had misinterpreted the word as Bruce that Jeff Lynne actually began to sing the word as Bruce at live shows.
Additionally, I have heard of some ELO fanboys having a bit of a grudge against Queen. Both groups are known for their elaborate harmonies and orchestral-leanings, but the ELO camp feels Queen has stolen some of their thunder over the years through commercial success.
Which is funny, because, as a Styx fan, I felt the same way about Queen.
Don't get me wrong. I dig plenty of Queen songs.

Styx > Queen
That's a hard call for me to make, but as I have most of the full Styx albums while my Queen collection consists of only their Greatest Hits compilations, that may be enough of an answer...

ELO rocks, as does styx. i too like queen, now they have my favorite singer as their front man... not sure how i feel about it, but it isnt really queen to me now... (big bad company fan here) i've seen styx, great show, but have heard so many good things on queen in concert before my days lol. and i've heard they put one of the best shows on... i would have LOVED to see ELO!!

Styx > Queen
You should move out to San Diego, Beebe - the current incarnation of Styx seems to be playing at some local bar or casino every other week.
I have the entire studio catalog of both groups. My favorite Queen albums are easily their first four. I like much of the early Styx (though I can only handle so much "Plexiglass Toilet"), but I think that I probably am more of a fan of middle era Styx. Queen, however, never did something as vomit inducing as "First Time".
I wonder if people realize they are hearing Styx every time they see a movie with THX sound (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_Note). :)
Kelly sang lead on a few ELO songs, didn't he Helen? Not so much lead on their radio material (his moment in the sun was yelling out "But I..." in "Do Ya", I think).

If you only have Queen on a greatest hits collection, that is part of the problem. Queen II and Night at the Opera are epic albums, much better to listen beginning to end than as a disjointed collection of songs (I doubt you'll find much Queen II material on a greatest hits collection, which is sad).
Re: new Queen, aka "Queen featuring Paul Rodgers" - Charles, did you get their recent studio album? Queen is a misnomer - this was obvious the Paul Rodgers - Roger Taylor project. They probably did most of this when Brian May was finishing up his astronomy Ph.D., because his influence on this album is minor. Very strong material from Taylor, though, as well as Rodgers.
Sorry for hijacking your thread, Helen. :elefant:
