The wife today got a phone call from 317-592-9488 asking for money a donation to the Police Protective Fund, when she asked that they send her some information by mail, he wanted a $15.00 commitment. Wife said no to the commitment and the guy hung up. I found the following by a Google search. If you do your own I think you will it to be a SCAM.
Indiana - 11 Jul 2009They called soliciting a donation for "The Police Department". I asked them to send me an information packet and was told that they couldn't send anything until I confirmed a donation amount. Then he said that he would put me down for $25 and send me a detail packet. I said I wanted information first and he said that was fine. I received a packet with a 'bill' for $25, a return envelope and NO info so I threw it away. Then I started getting collection calls from them. When I told them I wasn't sending a donation without knowing anything about their company, the guy calling me had the nerve to ask why I didn't want to help police officers. I told him that's what my taxes went for and hung up. I get calls all the time from them. This is a scam.Caller ID: 317-592-9488

We've gotten several calls from "Police Protection" in the last 2 yrs or so. If I want to donate, I will send a check directly to the source, not some call center. A friend of mine used to work for these people and said the manager of the call center gets most of that money anyway. No thanks.

I've gotten those calls telling me someone at this phone# (which is unlisted) had made a donation of x amount of $ and they have yet to receive our donation. Then they want to know what credit card I would like to put that donation on so that it isn't turned over to collections.
I simply hang up. What else can you do with a crook on the other end of the line?

I have gotten this call for a few years now. The real police protection people call in January.
I made the mistake of supporting these guys a few years ago. They will send you a sticker for your car but it is not the same as the Police Protection that calls in January.

What really irritated me this time was when they said, Mrs. Slotz, we noticed you gave a few years ago but missed last year and would really like it if you could help again this year.
I said, Well, I was getting chemo, "yatta yatta yatta" and had other things on my mind and now, I can not afford to donate to anybody,.
and then I get the run around,
it is only 15 dollars, etc, etc.
and I finally said,
would you like to send me 15 dollars to help me pay of some of my doctor bills?
