Has anyone noticed that old eyesore of a church building behind the fire department in ashley. Man whoever got that has really fixed it up. New roof New siding and i have driven by and they have a large group of people attending there now. I just thought that was good as i heard not long ago the town was considering tearing it down

Wonder why no one ever comments on a positive thread. Something that is actually doing good in our community. I hear they are starting a food bank already in that place

I can't speak for others Paslone, but when I read your posting I was happy to hear of the news.
An old church building being fixed up and brought back to life is certainly good news for the community. I'm double glad to hear your news about the food bank being started there.
I don't live in the Ashley area so I had nothing to offer to the discussion on a community level?

I wanted to post that because of all the negativity Ashley gets about it's polotics. To my knoledge there is no food bank in ashley and for those folks to have rebuilt that old place and already putting in a food bank i think is awesome. Everything in ashley is not bleak

I agree.
There is always light further down the road.
I am with Helen though, I was happy to hear, but I don't know anything more than that, and had nothing productive to offer to the conversation.

It is a great idea. The reason I did not respond was because I have never gone past the church and felt I would not have much to contribute.
Great idea!!

The place is at 124 Hobart ST. Right behind the fire department. Im going to take a bunch of food and donate it. Im sure they would apreciate food donations if any of the good people on the fence post would like to help

This is just a short story I decided to share.
A few years ago, I noticed an elderly gentleman that would be in the same gas station I go to every morning before work. He was shivering cold, he did not have a warm coat at all. He looked tired and worn.
He had a hard time walking. He would be buying canned cat food and dog food and bread and milk.
He had a hard time paying for it all, ie, he would be counting out his change.
The lady at the gas station told me that he does not have enough strength to shop at a grocery store and that he eats the canned dog and cat food.
I can not imagine ever eatting it, but, this man, learned to like it.
I decided to follow him home one morning.
Come to find out, he lived on 427 and I came home and hubby and I decided to do something nice for him.
We went to Walmart and Kroger and bought over 200 dollars worth of groceries. Everything you could imagine. I found a nice coat in the closet and a nice warm blanket that we were going to take him as well.
We boxed it all up and I just wanted to leave it on his front porch. Did not want to embarrass him at all.
Well, the day we dropped it off. He happened to walk outside.
I said, Hello, We are here to drop some goodies off for you.
He was very surprised and at the same time happy.
He said, Why Thank you, Who should I thank.
I said, Sir, You can Thank Jesus. Have a wonderful day and Merry Christmas.
He never knew who we were.

Mrs Slotz when we do good deeds for someone whenever possible we should try to do them unnoticed. That way God gets all the glory

You might be surprised. I think most of the regulars in here believe too but,
they do not want to make the fence post a religious post. :)

You really think so. Why would they say they dont then?
Are they really saying they don't believe? or
we don't want to talk about this in here?
I love all my regular buddies in here and when they do not post for a day or 2, i get concerned.
Most members in here are more interested in politics, the economy and how it is going to change our future.
I love the lord with all my heart, and I am almost certain, that most of the regulars do to, but,
there is a time and place that we discuss all of this.
Don't take this the wrong way. This is a very sensitive, private matter for some folks.
Continue to do what you are doing. Don't get discouraged if you are not getting the results that you want.
Remember, all are reading
and learning about you and they are listening.
They are very good people.
All you have to do is open a door,
and you, my brother, have done that.
The door is open.
It is wide open.. Your work is done.:)

I believe it too.
Believe this,
Most are tucked away in their beds. It is 2 am.
I always stay up late on Friday.
Good night and keep on doing what you are doing. I have to be up at 10 am and I need to hit the rack.
You seem to be so motivated. Motivate all of us. Come up with a Plan that will help our economy.
Good Night.

I agree that they have done a wonderful job fixing up the church.
Even though I live in Ashley, I never heard that they were going to set up a food bank. Is the food bank up and running or are they waiting for more supplies?
Thank you for starting this thread. A wonderful breath of fresh air, so to speak.

:hmmmm:
Please realize that I'm NOT picking on you!!!!
But your post simply brought up a question that I've been worrying over for years.
That being........ Why in the world would ANYONE let beer (or whiskey, or whatever) keep them out of Church?
Especially when you consider America's founding! In England our Revolution is still called "the Deacons' Revolt", because most of the leaders of that war were in fact Church deacons.. BUT.. most of these Churchmen, also drank enough alcohol before lunch each day to leave today's experienced alcoholics staggering for a week!!! In fact, our Revolution was predominatly fomented in Churches & in taverns!
Believe me! God won't even try kicking anyone out of His house for having alcohol on thier breath! And whenever anyone else does, I really believe they lose a lot of favor with Him!!!!!!!

You'll find there are more than a few of here who are believers. Sometimes it is dangerous to admit to it, but that goes with the territory eh?
