I am so curious as to why there has been no news story reported in either KPC news of the Journal Gazette this week regarding this armed robbery?
Wednesday evening as I drove home from work, I tried to pull into the CVS parking lot in Leo. That area is very congested due to heavy road work going on all around that intersection. I couldn't see the Sheriff's car and yellow crime tape until I was right up on it and there was a Sheriff waving for me to go on. It was pretty obvious that some type of crime had occurred.
Personally I sent an e-mail to a member of KPC administration when I got home. It seemed like a news worthy story to report? I watched the news on both Thursday and Friday and nothing has appeared in any of the local papers.
Thursday evening while checking out at the same CVS store in Leo, I inquired of the clerk what had happened. She told me it had been an armed robbery for drugs. She said it was scarey.
Friday evening, I was at a CVS store in FW and the clerk on duty was talking about how all the workers were given pictures of the robber from the CVS store in Leo. I asked him what the robber looked like. He said he was very tall and large all over. That he had a hat and sunglasses on.
Usually police want the public to see these pictures in case they can help identify the robber. Yet no pictures have been published that I am aware of and I have searched the local papers for the story - no results. Most unusual!!

I passed your message along, but my guess is that it wasn't followed up on because Leo is not in the area we generally cover.
Seems like a lot of CVS pharmacies are getting hit for drugs lately. Ligonier, Angola, and I think RaceFan posted about one in Ohio.

Thank you for passing the message on James. I did believe KPC included Allen County news, perhaps I was mistaken?
The question that myself and several neighbors have been discussing is this...we know our local CVS experienced an armed robbery this past week. We also know that nothing has been reported concerning this robbery. We also know that all the CVS clerks have been posted to be on alert for this robber.
Given that much information, we have concluded that it is very possible there are many more pharmacy robberies than the community is aware of. Inasmuch as this robbery received no public announcement, how many others are occurring that go unreported?
This is a topic in SE Dekalb county that is being heavily discussed among neighbors. Perhaps KPC might want to inform their community????? I am certainly one of their community. If KPC does not cover incidents that occur in Allen County, I suppose I must give them a pass. What is up with the Fort Wayne papers? Why are they not reporting?

We have monthly publications that serve Allen County, and we do carry Allen County news to a certain extent in the daily papers, but as far as the Star and the other dailies, the primary focus is the four-county area. The Star tends to pick up a little more Allen County news because it's closest to Allen.

I'm actually kind of surprised that between them and the TV stations that there was nothing on it, especially since there has been a string of CVS robberies lately. Probably the Leo (or perhaps Allen County) police department doesn't send press releases to us because we don't cover them regularly, but you would think something would have been sent to the FW media.

I would think a crime of this nature would be reported by some type of media in the local area. Neighbors and I have done some visiting and speculated as to how many of these crimes goes unreported to the public?
We believe there is something very unusual about why this was not reported and we want to know why? I don't know anyone to contact in FW media to inquire about this. Apparently, that is the next inquiry we need to make.
Simple question: DUDE, we had an armed robbery in our neighborhood for drugs and nobody is reporting it, except for the people in the neighborhood? Where is the press and why are they ignoring covering this?

The increased crime in the small town local areas is very disturbing and I hope they are able to catch up with these people. I know that some things are not reported to the public because they don't want to alarm people with the idea that these places may not be safe to shop at. Many years ago when I was young, my mother struck up a conversation with a Security person at Glenbrook Mall while waiting for us to finish shopping at a particular store. That person had told her that she wouldn't believe how many incidents are not publicly reported for this reason. At least with the increased technology today many more places have cameras which can aid in catching these people.

I've heard the story also about all of the unreported crimes that occur at Glenbrook. Personally, the ability of the press to choose which stories they report makes me most uncomfortable. Most of our papers at least contain a Police Blotter....when local media omit reporting a crime, they are doing no favor to their local readers. The community does want to know when/where a crime has occurred and they are interested in the suspects description.
Personally, I hold the local media accountable for honesty in reporting the news. When they fail to do so, they loose their creditability with me on everything else they do report. Call me crazy - but it seems to me they should be reporting ALL the news (unless of course it interfers with an on going investigation).
Since this crime occurred in Allen county (on the borderline with DeKalb county), I suppose KPC has no obligation to report the news. What happened with all the newspapers, tv and radio in Allen county? Are they all agreeing to protect the public image of safety while you shop at CVS? How many other armed robberies occur that are not reported in our areas?

WOWO briefly covered the Sporting Goods robbery in Stueben and the CVS robbery on Lima Road. Not too much detail but they were covered.

I've never had to buy a fifth of whiskey under the diress of an armed robbery at CVS before. So, anecdotally, it's still safe to buy your hard liquor at CVS.

Guess I was wrong after all, Helen, we do have something on this story (subscription required):
FORT WAYNE — Police have arrested two brothers and charged them in connection with the armed robbery of the Ligonier CVS on Aug. 15, and another CVS store in Leo-Cedarville on Aug. 18, according to documents on file with the U.S. District Court in Fort Wayne.

I hope that all CVS Pharmacies are taking the extra steps needed to prevent this from happening again. It is a shame that some people are so addicted to drugs that they are willing to risk getting caught and going to prison for a very long time.

It's okay Pixie - I laugh at myself often also too. :)
At least the press finally reported the robbery in Leo. For some crazy reason that really bothered me that I knew it happened and nothing was being reported.
The part I don't yet understand is how the Feds got involved? Both robberies happened in Indiana. Maybe because one of the 2 brothers lived in Ohio, I guess. Both of those young men are really in big trouble now. Darn shame to see young people waste their lives away and scare people as they did at Leo.

I am not sure why they would bring the Feds in either, unless it has something to do with the fact that they were robbed of a controlled substance? or because they crossed state lines as you suggested?
