Well somebody reset the bar for mediocrity. Or at least that would be what ESPN would have you believe on Sportscenter this morning. But even though the Phillies have lost more games than any other profession sporting team on this continent, I think we need to put this loft feat into a little bit of perspective with the comparrison to the basement dwellers of the other leagues.
1) The Phillies are one of the oldest teams in profession baseball. They have probably been in existance longer than most of the other major sports leagues combined.
2) More baseball games are played in MLB each season than in any other sport (162?). It would take an NFL team 6 years to match the grand efforts at mediocrity the Tigers achieved in just a single season just a few years ago. It would also take them 10 years to play the number of games played in a single MLB season.
3) If their all time wining percentage was a batting average they would be kings of the diamond at .468
