FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- UPDATE: Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries gave an update on the search for a missing nine-year-old girl Saturday including what happened Friday night and who police are currently questioning.

Fries said Aliahna Marie Maroney Lemmon and her two sisters, ages six and eight, had been staying at the home of one of her mother’s friends in the Northway trailer park near Clinton Street and Diebold Road for about a week since their mother had been ill.

The friend told police Lemmon had fallen asleep in a chair in her clothes, not pajamas Thursday night. Police said she was last seen wearing a blue and black plaid coat with fur around the hood, a silver and white sweater dress with white tights and black shoes with bows.

She was still at his home around 6 a.m. Friday, but at 10 a.m. he saw a pile of her clothes by that chair and assumed she was still there.

Police believe she left the home on foot between those times.

Fries said there must have been some kind of miscommunication between the friend and the girl’s mother about where she was because a call about the girl being missing didn’t come in until 8:40 p.m.

Now, a five mile radius wide search is underway for Lemmon.

Indiana State Police are conducting an aerial search with their helicopter, the Fort Wayne Fire Department’s Dive Team is searching nearby ponds, bloodhounds have been brought in to search the area as well. Fries said they can track scents up to several weeks old. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has also been brought in to help re-interview the mother, her friend, the girl’s stepfather and her two sisters.

Fries said there must have been some kind of miscommunication between the friend and the girl’s mother about where she was because a call about the girl being missing didn’t come in until 8:40 p.m.These are the kinds of assumptions that are beneath law enforcement. Girl is noticed missing at 10am and no one calls the police until 8:40pm (way past dark)? That is not a miscommunication. First thing a care giver does when they notice a child is missing and they exaust all immeidate possibilities is to notify the police. Something isn't right. The "friend" should be the first suspect and the other children removed from his care until this thing is sorted out.

FORT WAYNE — Authorities say a missing 9-year-old Indiana girl has been found dead, and a family friend who had been watching the girl is facing murder charges.

Allen County sheriff's spokesman Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel said Monday night that investigators found the body of Aliahna Lemmon in the county, but he wouldn't say where.

Tinkel said 39-year-old Mike Plumadore was arrested and is being held on a murder charge. He's scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

Aliahna was reported missing Friday night. FBI agents joined the search Monday, descending on the mobile home park where she lived that's a known haven for registered sex offenders.

Plumadore isn't on Indiana's registered sex offenders list. He has a criminal record in Florida and North Carolina that includes convictions for trespassing and assault.

Sucks to be right. My heart goes out to the family. I can only image how I'd feel and what I'd do if this happened to my son.

My heart is broken for this poor little innocent child, I cannot imagine the horror
that she was put through. It would certainly be nice if we could eliminate all of
these threats to our children. I would much rather see 1000 of these people put
to death than one more innocent little baby. I am absolutely sick to my stomach
that someone can be so heinous.

I've been so afraid this would be the outcome, yet, I tried to keep hope alive. I read the following in the JG this morning. How could he direct them to the body if he had not done the murder? I know this is pure speculation, but it sounds to me like he purchased a cigar at the Marathon station after he murdered her and then went home an smoked it. Hope that is the last cigar he EVER smokes! So very sad.

Plumadore did not confess to the killing, but he did indicate to police where they would find her body, Fries said.

I was not prepared to hear just how horrible this little girl's death turned out to be. How does anyone prepare for something like this? They just told the details on WAYNE TV noon news. It seems that the animal that killed her has finally admitted to it now. :-(
