I was just inspired to go back and reread some of Richard Matheson's stories by the release of the movie. He is/was such a great writer.

If anyone hasn't read his stuff do yourself a favor and do so.

Agreed! Can't wait to see the movie also — I hope they do the book justice.

I saw the movie last weekend. I have not read any of the books so I did not know what to expect. I was left with a lot of unanswered questions. I suppose the book actually goes into more detail about how things happened, but how did he survive the intial zombie attacks? How did he install all the steel shutters by himself? What did he spray on his steps and why at the beginning of the movie? How did that lady survive the zombies to save him without them attacking her like they did him? As I said, many unanswered questions.

I haven't seen the movie yet so I can't comment on all of it, but it sounds like the movie has "modernized" some elements. In the book (which is actually a novella), he secures his windows and doors etc. with boards and not steel shutters. I assume there are other aspects that have been "updated" as well.

It will be interesting to see how this filmed version differs from the story and from the other movie versions.
