Default Jamie Lynn Spears pregnant at 16

Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16-year-old sister of Britney Spears, has announced she's pregnant.

Jamie Lynn is a star of Nickelodeon's "Zoey 101," which, from what I could tell, is a show for tweens.

How do parents of tweens feel about Spears' pregnancy? Is that going to affect whether you let your kids watch "Zoey 101" anymore? How are you going to explain Spears' pregnancy to your kids, especially girls? Are you worried about her as a role model?

I have two "tweenage" nieces and I am certain that my brother and sister-in-law will be interested to hear about this one. I can't say I'm all that surprised that this girl has followed in big sis's footsteps, although I'm saddened by it. Unfortunatley, these girls have a very unorthodox lifestyle to say the least and they don't seem to have adults around who care about much beyond their monetary value.

So having sex as a teenager is unorthodox? That's pretty judgemental of you. How many teenagers do you really believe are NOT having sex? We all did it, she just got caught.

Though I do not crucify her for allowing herself to get pregnant, she should have used precautions to assure this would not happen. The funny thing in all of this is that her mother was about to publish a book about parenting. The publisher has postponed the date. Go figure.

Heck yes it's judgemental! If more of us actually has enough guts to say that 16 year old kids having kids is a BAD idea then maybe the country would be in slightly better shape. Instead, we just excuse crappy behavior because everyone else is doing it.

Our society is decaying because taking reponsibility for things is no longer expected of us. It's always someone else's fault.

The unorthodox lifestyle I spokeof isn't the getting pregnant. It's living in the spotlight, seeing your sister behave like an imbecile, being told that everything you do is ok because you're on tv. THAT is unorthodox.

Gosh, not many. And that's something to be happy about? So, since it is inevitable, we should embrace it? Let's extend that to other things as well. "Well, since my son is going to smoke, I should just go buy 'em for him. Everyone's doing it. Maybe I can score a dime of the chronic as well. Better to get it from me than a stranger..."

I have also, in my younger days, gotten drunk in a bar and driven home. I also have stolen pencils in grade school. I have driven faster than the speed limit. Ran red lights. Does that mean it excuses that behavior in my kids? Not if I care about their welfare. I got lucky and wised up, but my kid might be the one who runs that red light and kills someone. It's my responsibilty to teach him that there is a difference between a wise choice and an unwise one, just as it is is the responsibility of this girl's parents to do the same.

So the downfall of our country is due to 16 year olds having children? I am not excusing her for what has happened. She should have been more responsible and used some protection. But, to blame teenagers who have no more common sense than a gnat at that age, is insane. Our president doesn't even have more than that, but that's just my opinion.

Apples to oranges there. Sex is a natural, human desire and function. Driving drunk, running red lights and being a thief is a choice one makes. When I was 16 yrs old I had a plan to hitch hike around the country with truckers. How smart is that????! I wanted to be a free spirit and it sounded like a super idea to me at the time. I would most likely have ended up dead as a result, but I was planning to do it. Then, yes...at 16...I got pregnant by my boyfriend. I made the choice to grow up REAL quick and have my son and raise him the best we could. I didn't put him in a trash can, I didn't abort him, I didn't sell him for drug money. I married my boyfriend and we are still married to this day (22 years). Not a common thing at all. I know we are the exception, but not all teenage mothers are losers and I certainly am not a menace to society. I have no criminal record and work for a living, paying my dues. I have never even had a speeding ticket. We have raised three awesome sons and my oldest just got his honorable discharge from the military this past May. Our middle son is planning to join as well. Don't be so quick to judge people by their "mistakes" in life. I do not want any of my boys to become teenage parents, therefore, I have made it perfectly clear that IF the situation presents itself that they are in need of protection, they can come to me. I don't condone it, but ya have to pick your poison sometimes.

I know that stars are no different than other people BUT
When her handlers (parents) allow the publication of her pregnancy,
It not only says that it is acceptable, it says it is a good thing!
Responsibility? She may only be sixteen w/ little common sense,
Can you say the same for her parents or the media that is making money off this kind of story?

No...if they did allow this they ought to be ashamed. I am not sure how someone with that much public exposure would keep it quiet, but I would sure hope they'd try to. It's apparent that something went very wrong with these two at some point. My 13 year old and I were just talking about this very subject this morning. He brought it up to me!

in this day and age, it's an everyday occurance. Now, let's just hope that the news media doesn't beat it to death like they have her sister's custody issues. I see no need to highlight this one person for something that has been happening for years.
I understand that her celebrity status is going to mean that it's going to be in the spotlight, but they need to drop the subject. She is a role model to young kids, and if they see that it's okay for her, then they will feel it's okay for them.

It has to do with GREED, the bane of the capitalist society. These children are the parents meal tickets so they are not raised ,they are just kept happy to keep the paychecks rolling in. They are used for profit and tend to burn out at a young age the list is longer than i can mention, but todays young stars are tomorrow's sad headlines .

This, unfortunately, is very true. Money is the root...

Her sister getting pregnant now is just adding another car on the trainwreck that is Britney Spears' life.

I would feel bad for this family's kids, except they will probably grow up to be just like Britney and her sister, and there are more deserving people with which to bestow pity.

Like she needs any help...she IS the train wreck at this point. Has anyone examined her for post-partum psychosis? It is a real illness and the chick needs help before she seriously hurts herself or her children.

Say... I've got a great idea! Let's act like the world is going to heck in a handbasket because a redneck got pregnant in her teens!

NO lucius, the world isn't "going to hell in a handbasket" because of this girl getting pregnant. This girl is just the latest example of, and evidence for, the degeneration of our culture. Excuse it, minimize it, and/or deny it all day, but I defy you to walk into Cahoots (as an example) on a random weekend evening and sit in a corner and observe and NOT walk out feeling like you need to take a shower. Or for that matter walk through any local middle or high school with the same objective.

Read with interest the stories relating to Miss Spears in the coming days and see exactly how proud everyone is...

Sorry fella, but things are actually better now than in the past with regards to teen pregnancy. Put away the rose-colored glasses, our culture is in better shape now than its ever been. Drugs, violence, racism, civility, understanding, education... we're a better people now than we've ever been.

You are, man. Heck, just the past few weeks the History Channel has been showing "1968". A mere 40 years ago and there was rampant drug use, sex, racism, global paranoia and the ever popular presidential assassinations.
