Four number 1 seeds in the final 4. Thats a first. So, did the selection committee actually get it right, or did these teams get through on the merits of their bracket positions?
I recently heard somebody make an argument for an expanded tournament draw. Normally, I am not one to agree with dragging out the process longer. But the case they made did make sense to me. Of course you could shrink the field a little bit and I'd be ok with that as well.
Either expand the 65 to 68 teams or shrink the crowd to 36 and do a play-in game for every region. Seed every conference champion and put at-large teams in the play-in spots.
The fact that a conference champion (yes I realize that not all conferences are created equal, but Belmont may disagree with you), someone who earned the right to be there by virtue of winning their conference, has to play for the right to face the overall number one, while teams that didn't accomplish that have safer seeds just doesn't sit well with me.
