Default Yankees unearth Red Sox jersey from new stadium

I was around Chicago enough to know how superstitious sports fans can be, but still, jackhammering and replacing concrete can't be cheap.

NEW YORK (AP) -- A construction worker's bid to curse the New York Yankees by planting a Boston Red Sox jersey in their new stadium was foiled when the home team removed the offending shirt from its burial spot.

After locating the shirt in a service corridor behind what will be a restaurant in the new Yankee Stadium, construction workers jackhammered through the concrete Sunday and pulled it out.

And I heard just a minute ago that they are thinking of bringing the construction worker up on charges. I didn't know placing curses on someone or something was a crime. What would the punishment be..."I sentence you to sell hot dogs at the stadium for 18 months."

Depending on the relationship of the contractor to the organization (GC, sub, other contract) they could probably get away with building code violations, improper materials or something to that effect which would probably constitute fraud. But man thats being kind of petty.

How about fining him part of the cost ($50,000 and 5 man hours) for having to dig through 2 feet of concrete to retrieve the stupid jersey. He should have kept his big mouth shut about it.

Of course, why did they have to go to the trouble of digging the thing up? If anything is cursing the Yankees, it's paying too much for some players, not a buried jersey.

Besides, something like that could become part of the mystique of the new stadium. Look how many people have brought goats to Wrigley Field over the years.

They didn't have to dig up anything. They look pretty stupid for doing it.

The jersey just pulled in more than $175,000 on eBay.

Gee, I wish I had $175,000 to blow on a jersey. Not that I would actually spend it on a jersey; I just wish I had the extra $175K lying around.
