I see the County is looking to sell off the Park at Clear Lake. Is it because too many of those fine upstanding people are complaining because the Amish dare to use the park and swim there?
It is the same story for every lake:
Work like hell to get a house on the lake; once you are there, work like hell to keep everyone else off the lake.
Apples are good,
Oranges are bad,
Lemons are rude,
Bananas are perverted,
And kumquats are just, plain evil...

Which park is this that you are talking about? Is it the beach that is located by the store and icecream business where you walk down the steps to the beach?
We go swimming there, have since I was in high school back in the 70's and now I take my Grandkids there to swim as well. I'd hate to see people loose that beach.
If there was no water elevation difference between James and Crooked so that an connecting channel could be dug (Boaters from Lake James and ALL its connecting lakes could get there [Crooked Lake] as well Boaters from all the connected lakes could even attend 4-H Park functions) that property would make the perfect location for an mini-water park much like the one proposed at Hamilton for economic/environmental/boat safety developments, that over the Towns nine year dam/spillway controversy. Ofcourse at Hamilton that would mean extending the Millpond by 8/10 acres as was done with 60? new acres out North where the same type of water park was originally planned.
As for environmental and boat safety developments and for those remembering the beaches of days gone by,but remember such as Bledsoes,Cold Springs and Circle Park as examples where fun, safe and clean get-a-ways for family and friends to even fish and picnic when besides people would drive from all around to go there but even Boaters would park their boats and make a day of it? Besides those in boats fishing wouldn't mind less recreational boat traffic but the more parked boats when Boaters get out on the lake is better for both the ecosystem of all our lakes as well for boat safety (the latter in lieu goes to an survey of over-crowded lakes by the Steuben and LaGange County Lake Associations?) but besides an question of just who did the study maybe three years ago but with to many boats on such resort lakes at a time and criss-crossing each others paths is as dangerous as traffic criss-crossing in in full lots in undesignated areas such as Scotts,Rural King,Meijers and quite a few other places here in Angola and last but not surely not least but while criss-crossing in undesignated areas of Walmarts full parking lot (for those Drivers not quite understanding what Boaters go through on these resort lakes and just how dangerous it really is and OFTEN times they are even pulling Skiers and such behind their boats!)
But anyway if Boaters had such an connecting place if it were possible would serve all three of the economic/environmental/safety developments right there from property owned already by the County so location-location-location would not be an factor there.
So do I understand this right, They want to sell this park at Clear Lake and use that money towards the 4-H park near Angola? At least that's what I heard.
I guess it would be ok if it would still be open to the public even though privately owned.
As many times as we have been there to swim I've never seen any amish there.
On your last post Armyda, Where are you going with that sign "I'm with stupid"? I was just asking about the park. I don't want anyone to take over the park that will regulate different people from using it. I think the Amish have as much right to use Clear lake as a place to swim as anyone. Taking a bath in the lake, now that's a different story, as I'm sure they could do that at home.
Charles Barkley or Chris Rock could afford to have a home there- or that 'mushroom cloud layin' Samuel L Jackson, but that'll never happen either. Those 'deals' would fall through no matter what.
Just a 22 year observation.....What say you, Evil?
You're not a Belgian Kumquat, are you? That would be "so ****** evil".

Interesting opinion piece from the Fort Wayne Journal on the Clear Lake Park today.

I am surprised the Steuben Herald-Republican hasn't offered an opinion.
Ya sure take away a park and swimming hole where people like to go so someone can build some houses or condo's.
Loud music and parties, another case of a small number who will end up ruining it for everyone else.
I thought clear Lake had police to watch for that kind of stuff.
My Grandkids love that swimming hole because they can walk out a long ways.

Exactly Race Fan to what happened with Hamilton Lakes Circle Park. Though Bledsoes on Lake James just died out on the spot though didn't cave in to rebuilding, don't know reasons why others shut down on our 101 bragged of Steuben County Lakes. It just does not make sense to me about buying thousands of dollars worth of watercraft just to go round and round a few times without somekind of place for those watercrafts could be parked and enjoy some family and friends quality time together. For any remembering what Circle Park once was this other way just makes no sense at all to me. Well,it does make some sense. The richer get richer and low incomers who can't even afford such watercraft let alone leave the area to take a few days to vacation at an super sized waterpart get caught in the squeese play.
Is the old 76 Club park still open on Crooked Lake?
