    Default Opinion Section

Why does the opinion section have to be separated between all the different newspapers?

I have missed many Letters to the Editor I would have liked to read because they were published in the N-S or E-S sections while I tend to remain in the H-R section.

This problem really came to light this week regarding a diatribe against Obama featured in the both the H-R and N-S section, while a rebuttal was only found in the N-S section.

This could further enforce some people's opinion that the H-R is absolutely a GOP puppet paper, rather than just a paper that leans in that general direction.

Our opinions section online is one I would like to totally blow up and start over, and in fact we may be doing that before long.

Right now the way we have it set it up it's a bit of a hassle to post the same letter to multiple papers, so usually online it's posted to the paper whose territory it originated in - in the case you're talking, I think the letter was from Rome City or Kendallville, so it posted in the News-Sun online. Since a lot of the letters we get deal with local issues, that's why we do it that way, but you're right, it doesn't work in the case you mentioned.

I'll see if I can put together some sort of aggregated letters page in the short term that you can access easier and post a link here when I get it done.

I had the same response, but I was sort of hoping we'd get another Faffian masterpiece to put it into perspective.

OK, a page containing all current letters to the editor on the site, with links to the past week's, is here:

    http://www.fwdailynews.com/features/...to_the_editor/

I also added a link to this page on each of the local papers' opinions page.

It looks better, but it might be easier to parse if you could tag all the previous letters with the paper in which they appeared (maybe some sort of cute icon or text labels like "NS", "ES", "HR", etc.). In fact, with those labels you would not need to segregate the current letters either.

Just some ramblings from an amateur web designer.

It's a good idea, but not something I can do with our current system. Changes are a' comin', however, so I'll keep it in mind for the future.

And when they get that, you'll probably want a audio link so you can hear someone reading them to you. So you won't wear out your poor tired eyes.

Hey now, it's not a bad idea. Trust me, we want to make everything as easy for our readers as we can.

By the way, if you're on a Mac you can set it to read everything to you...
