I ask, because I lived for several years in Oklahoma City area. Twice in a period of 3 years, I had a tornado on the ground 1 mile wide, total destruction heading in the direction of where I lived. I opened the front door and could only see tornado on the horizon...no sky.
Fortunately, both times my famiily survived. Many of my neighbors did not survive. When I hear someone say 'Bird flu, SARS, swine flu... Don't care, you are not going to scare me'...., I believe you have never met the awesome strength of Mother Nature and of Disease. (I've also lost family to cancer so quickly it was unbelievable).
Maybe LB you have indeed met this unbelieveable power of destruction, personally, it was humbling and I'm not ashamed to tell you I learned a new definition of 'FEAR'. I do not live in 'FEAR', however, I recognize when it is necessary to add additional layers of caution to my situation.
That is all.

I agree with Lucius in that the risk of infection from these things is so often blown out of proportion... as if our society was nothing but a hypochondriac worried about his non-existent symptoms.
On the other hand, our government should be taking the appropriate safeguards in isolating those carriers and minimizing the risk of infection for the rest of us, just like we install tornado sirens and Doppler radar to minimize the risk of tornado injuries.

Wow...I was just saying this to my hubby last night about the SARS, various flu strains, etc. If the media would stop reporting on this non-stop, PUTTING people in a panic about it, we'd be that much better off. I turn it off any time it comes on TV. I've heard the story, I've read about...I'm done.
I agree we don't need to hear such a constant stream of reporting Ebbie, and apparently, there is little we can do about it other than wash our hands frequently and stay away from others if we are feeling ill.
Actually, I wish I didn't carry the level of fear that I do of such things, you and LB's attitudes are more healthy. If the worldwide CDC is capable of containing this we will all be blessed.
