Thanks for the link RaceFan!
The mountains of Tennessee are soooo relaxing, especially from a cabin with a hot tub on the deck after a day in the National Park. Wish we were going sometime soon!
If you've ever been to Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge TN. as I have , I long for there every day. So now I can go to a part of Gatlinburg everyday and look at this live video camera at: http://www.mountainchalets.com/Gatlinburg/Webcam.aspx

I agree! We took the kids there in '97 and have longed to go back since. We went into one of the photo shops where they dress the kids up in old western stuff and take their pic. To this day that is my absolute favorite photo of them together. It's priceless!! The view from the tram can't be put into words and I also loved the hot tub at the cabin on the back deck. Gorgeous!
Love the cam link. I know we've seen it. We traveled down to Cherokee, NC too. Nice place.
I'm a frequent visitor to the Smokies. Tried everything from camping in Cherokee at the KOA, Gatlinburg, and Maggie Valley in North Carolina to renting a cabin in Maggie Valley and Pigeon Forge. My preference are the cabins, mainly for the comforts and mostly the hot tub. Last time there were 12 of us. With 2 teenagers and 3 kids, there was no end to the activities.
Whitewater rafting on the Nantahala, Dixie Stampede, Dollywood, Santaland in Cherokee and even found time for outlet shopping for the ladies. But my all time favorite is just exploring the Smokies. After a full day of being on the move, these old bones really looked forward to soaking in the hot tub. About 10 years ago I even went home searching in Gatlinburg area and Maggie Valley. I now regret that I didn't follow up my dreams of living in a log cabin near the Smokies.
I didn't know about it until you did and I can't comment on a pending case!!!!!
Homey,
I sure agree with you, what a beautiful place to retire this would be. I would far prefer that area than a place in Florida, which many of my friends have gone for. Unfortunately, I'm afraid I'll have to settle for taking vacations to that area. Did you know they have a Story Tellers convention & competition in the Johnsonville, TN area every year? I haven't attended it yet, however, some of my friends have and they highly recommend it.

Thanks for posting that webcam. I've never been to Gatlinburg, but I clicked around their chamber of commerce's Web site and it looks like a great place. My husband and I are always on the lookout for places that would make nice long weekend trips, and Gatlinburg looks like it could be a really neat place to spend a few days. My husband loves hiking and enjoying beautiful scenery, and I just love to travel anywhere I've never been.

If you ever get down that way a side trip to Chimney Rock, which is near Lake Lure just outside of Asheville NC, is worth the trip. Especially if you are into mountain climbing. Its not really mountain climbing as you climb up by a series to stairs but you come down by taking paths and squeezing between boulders. You will have to be somewhat in shape but by taking your time its dueable. The view is unbelieveable so be sure to take your cameras.
Further bit of history is that some of scenes from the movie "The Last of the Mohicans" was shot at Chimney Rock. Also some of the dance scenes from "Dirty Dancing" was shot at Lake Lure.
Another side trip would be the Biltmore Estate in Asheville. Warning though its pretty pricey. More for adults than the kids.

My aunt and uncle have been to Biltmore Estates and really enjoyed it. But, wow, it is quite pricey!
Chimney Rock sounds great, too! Thanks for the suggestions. I don't know if we'll get down there this summer/fall, but it's definitely on the list of places to go now. (Of course, my husband always jokes that we should write a list of places I don't want to go, because it would be shorter!)

We have been going there every year for awhile now. I love the Smoky Mountain Flea Market, the outlet malls, the Cherokee Indian Reservation, and the downtown shopping in those novelty stores, especially the Thomas Kinkade Art Museum. Motels are really cheap in the early spring. I would highly recommend this trip to the young and old.
I totally agree Peaches. Also...if you want to indulge a bit more maybe for yourself and hubby...the Gaylord Opryland is an experience I haven't ever forgotten. This is in Nashville. The indoor floral gardens, water falls, and at nighttime, they have bands who play in the center of indoor ponds with water/light shows that relate to the rhythm of the bands that are playing on the lilly pads. And...these are Nationally known bands! You've got to see it to believe it!! Shopping is excellent there and plenty of great restaurants...when your feet get tired, you can let some give you a canoe view of the whole hotel from their indoor river. It is UNBELIEVABLE!! Do not miss if you ever end up in Nashville for any reason.http://www.gaylordhotels.com/gaylord-opryland/

Oh I was just in Galinburg a month ago. My husband and I went last year for our honeymoon. And this year I took my mom and sister down. Its great and so many things to do and see. It is definately different than being here in Indiana.
The cabin rental is the best. Besides the hot tub, just the privacy is amazing. It is well worth the long drive to go. Maybe I will post some of my pics on here.
I am in NO way accusing you of this, Homey, but there is just something about calling people "half-backs" that sounds offensive as hell... and yet so innocent at the same time.
I think it's because both "half-breed" and "we****ack" are such nasty terms.
I get the same uneasy feeling around people named "Clint".
Apples are good,
Oranges are bad,
Lemons are rude,
Bananas are perverted,
And kumquats are just, plain evil...
No, that's what I was trying to stress.
I was NOT accusing you (or anyone) of being offensive!
I was just pointing out that the word feels like it ought to have bad connotations even though it's purely innocent.
It's just one of those weird words that are perfectly innocent, yet have a certain... whatever... about them that makes me give it a double-take.
Like the expression niggardly. It was once a well-used word that simply means miserly (and indeed the word or its variants appear often in great English literature, including The Lord of the Rings). And yet, it caused a huge uproar when a few older Congressmen used the term some time back in an innocent manner. While I hate the fact that simply because a word sounds similar to another much, much more offensive one its use becomes anathema, I understand that such words are collateral damage in social struggles.
Half-backs when not used in a football setting just struck me as one of those iffy expressions.
No big deal. No offense was taken because I knew no offense was intended.

We have been to Biltmore Estates twice,Summer & Winter.
It has 250 rooms(Not all are tourable) . 34 family and guest bedrooms, 43 bathrooms, 65 fireplaces, three kitchens, indoor swimming pool, indoor bowling alley. The surrounding grounds include 100,000 acre's of forest,250 acre's wooded park, six pleasure gardens, and 30-miles of paved roads.
The Vanderbilt family opened it's doors to family and friends in 1895.
Construction started in 1889. Laborers earned .50 cents a day.
There is also a cattle farm and a winery . We went to the winery and tasted wine and toured the facility.
Some movies have been done in the house, one was Richy Rich.
Ya it is kinda pricy to take the tour. http://www.biltmore.com/
We do truly love the Smokey Mountains. Ya there's all the glitz downtown Gattlinburg and Pigeon Forge, but if you travel the back roads and do some exploring there's alot to see and pretty nice people to meet.
We have stayed in the motels and the condo's and I like it in the morning when the sun is coming up over the mountains.
Another website you can go to , to be able to watch realtime video of different places in the world is http://www.camstreams.com/scenerywebcams.asp
