I entirely LOVED my time at the Biltmore. Just wish they would offer a Bed & Breakfast room (I'm sure it would be pricey)...but wouldn't that be too cool waking up there with breakfast served in your room along with fresh flowers from their gardens?

    What a place!!

We were in Pigeon Forge last fall and made the mistake of staying in a hotel in town. The traffic was unreal and the residents said it was nothing compared to what it can be. It took us an hour to get a few miles.

We would get back to our hotel to change to go out for dinner and then always decided to walk someplace close to the hotel as to not sit in traffic. And then to find a place for dinner where the wait was less than an hour or even two was a challenge.

If we ever go again, we will rent a cabin and plan to cook our meals there.

I loved the Smokies and we spent most of our time there but I will certainly do things differently the next time we go.

That's the way to do it! Many cabins can be found for the same cost or less than a hotel. We always eat out one or two meals, but the grill is the way to go.

Apply for Food City's discount card (FoodCity.com - like a Kroger card) before you go, and stop at the grocery in town on your way IN.

The first time we went, we wanted to find the cabin first, then go to town (Pigeon Forge) for groceries.
Our cabin ended up on the top of a mountain (beautiful, serene area with no "neighbors") but we weren't about to go back down the mountain roads in the dark. Fortunately, we had some hot dogs in the cooler and snacks for the kids. That was supper our first night!

The mountain roads aren't so bad when you get used to them. But the first time there, in the dark, from flat 'ole Indiana, it sure is different!

I like how some of the cabins or houses up in the mountains are built partly on poles. The people who live up those mountain roads fly up and down them. My Wife doesn't like looking over the edge of the road when up in the mountains.
