It is now 1pm and I just happened to look out my front window. I couldn't believe my eyes. A woman had her large dog ( I believe it was a pit bull) tied to the handlebar of her bicycle running it as fast as it would go. She was not peddling the bike so the dog was doing all the work. WHY???
Maybe, just maybe, she was trying to work off some of the energy these large dogs can have?Working dogs can and do work very hard in hot weather. As long as they are given plenty of water, and looked after, I have no problem. In fact, letting them run, is much better than leaving them in a hot car!

I have been known to go for a 6-7 mile run in the heat of the day.
As long as I'm hydrated before (and re-hydrate after), I've never had any problem.
If I'll do it to myself, you better believe I'll do it to a dog (especially if that dog willingly drags me along).

Dogs have been running in the heat for as long as there have been dogs.

I've given up asking why folks do the things they do with their animals. Most of the times that I have asked, the answer made me feel pretty stupid. It seems like no matter how strange it might seem to me, most folks take pretty good care of their pets. So, unless it's real plainly some sort of drastic abuse, I mind my own business on this one.
