I agree wholeheartedly with the case being tossed out due to malfeasance on the part of the Waterloo police.
They should not be rewarded with a conviction after performing an illegal search.

I am not sure if I agree with this.

LOL John.
I found the read interesting and wanted feedback, especially yours.
Ok, I agree, the police had no right to search without a warrant.
so,
the Meth Heads go free. Ok, Great Idea!
They did fail at their job but because of it, meth heads are getting off scott free.
You are right. I won't worry about it. I already have one for a neighbor. LOL
Not really. This 'meth head' is going to be under constant watch. Move to a new city and they will alert the police there. This person is not going to just walk away and not have someone looking over their shoulder all the time. Criminals are stupid, give them enough time and they will screw up again. Hopefully the cops have learned a lesson.
"You don't have to agree with me, it's ok for you to be wrong." A.R.Rogance
The problem is they should have already known that particular "lesson".
This is why many of us mistrust law enforcement. They receive training to prevent these kinds of lapses. They are drilled over and over on how to act in any situation. They are tested and retested time and again to make sure they abide by the law and follow all proper procedures.
And yet they still make a fundamentally stupid (and dangerous) mistake like not getting a proper warrant.
Before anyone says "they're only human, everyone makes mistakes", we aren't talking about a typo on a police report, or putting the wrong date on an arrest report. Receiving proper permission to enact a search is a fundamental rule of police work and the Waterloo cops blew it.
What if instead of police we were talking about a school bus driver who failed to watch if the kids who just got off the bus were clear of the vehicle before taking off? This is a fundamental action of the job he performs; failure to do so could result in severe consequences.
The same for police who don't get a proper warrant. In this case, a drug user was freed (which isn't really that big of a deal; it could have been a lot worse if it had been a murderer).

well said evil. well said.
I would not agree that she got off scott free. Jail time till she posted Bond, or sat waiting for trial, hire two lawyers it appears to defend her. She most likely has paid more than her fine would have been. Lost her meth in the process.
I wonder which Judge issued the Search Warrant, and what story he got before issuing it.It would appear not the same one Judge Brown got.
