Thread: The Weather Channel

    Thumbs down The Weather Channel

I am a former Weather Channel junkie. I say former because I feel since NBC acquired it, it has gone down the toilet.

I always depended on The Weather Channel for local forecasts, especially during bad weather...but try finding a local forecast during primetime. They are dumped and shifted because they're always showing their features which are constantly repeated to the point of absurdity.

The Weather Channel should be about the WEATHER. Instead TWC cross promotes NBC network features and tried to make a star out of Al Roker and Stephanie Abrams. The far left-leaning morning news reports from MSNBC are what tears it for me. If I want news, there are many other channels I can watch. The Weather Channel should be about weather and leave the entertainment to the myriad of other channels available.

Has NBC ruined The Weather Channel? I say "Yes."

Well, they did put out a pretty decent iPhone app.
Although the radar map often shows rain when there is no rain. Or says the clouds are clear when it is not clear.

But other than bad radar, I can't complain about the app. I use it several times a day.

As for the tv channel, I haven't watched it in years. But if it's gone as liberal as you imply, that disapoints me. Weather should be about weather, not politics.

I'll admit, I don't watch the features on TWC. If it's time for the "Local on the 8's" I probably never turn that channel on unless I am cycling through the channels and see a tornado or flood picture.

Lately however, my blackberry or computer has been my forecast tool of choice.

Wow MarcoB,thanks for the Jim Beam on an old wound from an previous local for the disabled/HUD housing place of 7 years that won't heal and the current one,now going on three years that just, and just is good, keeps a refreshed bandaid over the old wound of seven years.

Just yesterday had it not been for an medical appointment in Fort Wayne that I was just about late for, because of getting yearly rental required paperwork for this place,I had intended talking with Management on my way out the door to Fort Wayne of this exact same matter. And I'd of hesitated of even replying on here about it if we'd had an Steuben County Government CERT meeting scheduled soon. But the comparison of tying CERT into your quote and you having called yourself a weather channell Junkie from this CERT members perspective no,maybe you're no Junkie but one who is concerned for their life...FYI CERT represents Community Emergency Response Team who be just a bunch of Volunteers right there with the Red Cross and all..

What our own Indiana County Emergency Management Office has done lately of this matter has had sirens placed around Steuben County. It reminds me of when in School, that ole 12 year School of a military system we were taught of out of Canada called DEW,DEW representing Distant Early Warning and by that same comparison with weather conditions such an local warning system for the people is just as relevent,as example why should we be watching some National weather chanell paciently waiting on local coverage when we can look out the window seeing trees touching their toes-lol...but point served. Personally I don't suppose enough of those sirens have been placed throughout Steuben County but no doubt too is an recession factor, sadly.

What's new though (as in new to that old wound) is this digital Law that took place this year. As for that other place (I don't have the numbers, maybe 300) Residents have two options for TV service, free or Mediacom. Here, with maybe 70 Residents we have two different options, free or DIRECTV services. Don't know about that other place,as in has Medicom added the (local mind you) digital weather channels to the Residents Medicom viewing packages? Here with our DIRECTV service they haven't but I surely intend to ask.

To finer tune what is meant it's not just us estimated 370 HUD related Residents plus one, that's you MarcoB who may be scrambling to find out what's going on with the weather if we've not got those local weather channels but just in Steuben County alone as example of all who have disconnected that free service my question goes to the same, have their TV carrier services added local digital channels?

Joking around about trees touching their toes is one thing but it's quite another matter when businesses of our local weather channels has the equipment to be warning us a tornado has touched down ten miles away but we can not get their service, free or otherwise. Being without the compared weather related distant early warning system reminds me of my second most favorite 60's Hippy years poster and second place in this favorite catagory loses to the first poster but anyway in my own wording it read IN THE EVENT OF AN NUCLEAR WAR BEND OVER AND KISS YOUR ROYAL RUMP GOOD-BYE

We listen to the weather on the scanner a lot along with the other channels. It is not the same as seeing the radar like on the weather channel, but, I do enjoy listening to the scanner in the morning while getting ready for work.
In the winter time, when the weather is bad, it is interesting to listen to the police and emergency personnel at hard work.

I admit, I too used to watch the Weather Channel, although not so much lately, more during bad weather seasons, spring & winter.

I've seen the commercials for the AM changes, but havent seen the changes. I have been irrated in the past, when I tune in to see what is going on weather wise, only to find a special program event.
They do have some good specials from time to time, but when its time for weather on the 8's, etc. That is what I want to see!

Thank goodness TWC gave the deep six to Dr Heidi Cullen who was on there daily preaching about global warming. After some very explosive remarks she made to the scientific community about opposition to global warming and her doctorate degree was in engineering, not meterology, she was a hot potato to The Weather Channel.

Yes, it is political. It's not "all global warming, all the time" as it was just after the NBC acquisition, but it's still left leaning and still hawking "global climate change."

I tuned in this morning for the 10:58 AM local forecast... it wasn't there!!!

This weather lady really needs to get a grip on her giggles! That was pretty much over the top.

A surprise for me recently was the history behind Meredith Vieiras and her month doing the news while stripping down to her naked self. I've heard that is popular in Europe, yet, I would NEVER have expected Meredith to have been a charter member of that club. In her defense....she only did this for 1 month until she got her big break in her career.
