Default No Weapons in Beauty Salon allowed

I've seen stories recently in the news where Starbucks has made it an official store policy to allow their customers to wear their firearms inside any Starbuck stores located in states where non-concealed carrying of firearms are permitted for licensed carriers. The story caught my eye and I smiled to myself as I imagined they might decide to limit sales of their new $17 high octane cup of coffee to those wearing guns.

This afternoon I was getting my hair done at a local Auburn Beauty Salon. I noticed a new addition placed under their pricing schedule...it now says, 'No Weapons allowed on these premises'. I'm thinking...have they had unsatisfied customers...have they been robbed recently....nope, I do believe it's just another sign of the times, they are a changing.

New signs for businesses serving the public apparently will now need to provide the following:

No Shoes, no Shirt, No Service
Smoke Free Only Environment in this Establishment
Weapons must be declared upon entry
Green Zone - Please note our recycle bins and their locations

So very many public signs have changed in my lifetime. I can remember signs designating water fountains/public restrooms based on a person's race. What an interesting and changing world we live in!!

They need a sign that says "No Thieves Or Murderers Allowed". It will keep them just as safe, maybe more.

The man with a gun in plain sight is not the one I fear, it's the weapon that is hidden that I fear!

The gun hidden in my jacket makes you more fearful than the one in plain view pointed at you? I don't fear guns, I fear criminals. That's why I carry a gun.

Just saying that if your gun is in plain view (holstered not aimed at me is big difference harry) is a gun that I can keep track of, the one in your jacket is a suprise kind of like the jack in the Box......Suprise I got the pistol so I get the pasos.....And I too have a permit to carry!! But again the registerd gun is less likley to be used comparative to the un-registered. GACK GACK!

Just messin' with you. I don't like the idea of a holstered gun because it is accessable to anyone in close proximity. If the nutcase can't see it he is less likely to try to take it.

Your thoughts are logical to me, Hairy. If your handgun is exposed it seems likely someone(s) may be tempted to take it from you by slight of hand or by force. If is not exposed, that temptation is removed, yet you remain with the added security of protection.

I saw a story this week where a high stakes poker game was being filmed on live TV at a very nice hotel. This happened in Europe, but it could have happened here in the USA too. The armed robbers got away with approx $1 million. It crossed my mind that if anyone would have been in that room with a shoulder holster & a gun, he may have been shot immediately to eliminate any threat he posed to the robbers. If his weapon was concealed, that would not have been an issue.

Seems like we are moving backwards in time to the wild wild west days where guns were so much a part of survival.

I'd be much more in favor of something that simply gave property owners the choice and laid out the rules for signage, notification, indemnification, etc.

Actually, it's not illegal. If you take your personal protection firearm with you, you can be asked to leave. If you do not leave, you will be charged with trespassing...but that is all.

If it's not holstered, where would you suggest having it? Shoved in a lint-filled pocket or into a waistband with no trigger guard? BAD idea, Plaxico.

An occurrence of this sort ^ has never been revealed in any news story I've ever heard. If you've ever seen a story about a bad guy taking someone's gun away from them (other than in the movies), please link it. Thanks.

Forgive me, I should have wrote "Openly Holstered", as in on the hip.
Just because you have never seen it on the news means it never has and could never happen?

I read something the other day about a possible new law that will allow employees to keep guns in their cars. Anyone read about this and what is the point?

With this new law, criminals will be able to not only steal a get-away car from employee parking lots, and but now have the means to rob a bank at gunpoint! It's one-stop shopping! It's really a small price to pay for the privilage. The victims of the robbery will be able to not only sue the bank, but the car's and presumably gun-owners for negligence. Might want to up your liability coverage if your packin' heat to work.

My Bad, Looks like it for Virginia. I think it is a stupid law. I do not see why anyone would want to leave a gun in their car. If you can keep it in your car, why not be able to take it in work too?

This is also on the Governers desk in Indiana. It is heavily backed by hunters who want to go hunting before or right after work. Non hunters might not understand.

It is legal, as most of you know to have legal shotguns and legal rifles in your vehicle now. It is basically only handguns that have restrictions. In my area (noble co.), I see shotguns and rifles in racks in the back windows of trucks parked in factory lots now. My feelings are if you have a personal protection permit to have a handgun then you should be allowed to have it at least in your vehicle when you go to work. I believe I would secure it in my vehicle out of sight. It should however be left up to the owners of the business if you could take the firearm inside of the business.

Some businesses ban all weapons from their property, this bill will stop that practice. These days it's not a good idea to leave anything of value in plain sight. Locks only keep honest people out.

Would this ban be lifted for all establishments? Would it apply to schools?
