4-lane North Wayne please.
The Fence Post is a wonderful way to air problems in our county. If elected officals are unaware of problems they cannot fix them. Get on board residents of Steuben county and make the Fence Post Forum a tool to improve our lifestyle.

4-lane North Wayne please.
My thoughts on a 4-lane North Wayne----
When they first mentioned making North Wayne a 3-lane, I just could not imagine and thought that it would create big problems but much to my surprise, I feel that the 3-lane is much better and the traffic flow is smoother. The only problem that I see is the South Wal-Mart entrance/exit. I did hear that they are finally taking a look at it and hope that they can do something to correct that situation.
I don't see how fewer lanes results in smoother flow, but keep on truckin'!
As for the walmart thing, i'd like to personally pistol-whip everybody who thinks they're so clever when they exit from that location instead of using the light.
It isn't that they are clever, they are just in a hurry to take the $3.00 they saved at Walmart and go spend it on a $8.00 coffee at Starbucks
Well, I just jam on the gas and leave a smoking trail as I fly through the air.... to Piggy's. Mmmm, beer.
As long as the officials access the forum and the discussions are thoughtful, they may take heed.
Don't forget you can also pick up the phone and let your thoughts be heard. Direct contact may be the most effective.
If you want to improve Steuben County or a least help it from getting worse. Call your county counselmen and tell them you are against all the building varienaces (special exceptions) the the BZA gives builders. They are allowing houses to be built too close to the road, too close to the lake, too close to the property boundaries and too high.
They grant so many special exceptions that they get sued when the don't!
It is getting to the point we can't see the lake between the houses.

Pfft, if I wanted to grind a personal axe i'd go after the sewer project, not decreased visibility.
It's too bad the county planners were'nt thinking of this back when they started building around the lakes.
Down around Tulsa, OK they have lakes that are manmade, by this I mean they flood valleys. Some of these lakes are 10,000 acres+ and you're not allowed to build within a couple of hundred yards of the shore. This is really nice when you're on the water because you can't see too many houses, and the lake seems to be a natural enviroment rather than a backyard swimming pool for 10,000 people.
I've seen other lakes do that. It is pretty nice. On manmade lakes another issue for the set back regulation could be water level. I've seen lakes with between 10 and 20 feet of waterline travel depending on the seasonal runoff.
I agree with Luciusbeebe. That sewer project was the biggest scam that this county has seen. That adds another car payment to what people have to pay. And the BS that the people around the lakes were put through to comply, when they had to comply, how, why, etc, etc.
Then they had to pay for it and had a fee increase before most of them were even hooked up.
What a crock of (*&%..
Don't even get me started, Ted. Their stupid junction box didn't have a little lock on it at my place, some kids monkeyed with it, and I had some water backflow into my basement. Then they told me they weren't responsible because they said there wasn't a lock on the box. So I said there weren't locks on any of the boxes. They said that wasn't their problem. (I have photos of the neighbors' boxes to prove it). So not only am I out the costs associated with the sewer line, but also for the damage to my basement. I am, shall we say, miffed at them for this huge scam. Everyone knows what it is. Its paving the way for the developers to come in, buy people out, plow their houses down, and put up huge condos. Put me in a room with the guys who came up with this for five minutes and I'll come out a battered but happy man.
The sewer porject was put through to help lake quality. The lake front owners needed someone to help pay for the project because it would have be too expensive otherwise. Sort of like reverse "Robinhood". Supposedly all homes on the system would appriciate since the project went thorough, but home values actually went down an average of $14,500. (do the math - $2000 insatallation costs +time value of $69/month for thirty years) That's not too bad if your house was worth $750.000 to start with but if your house was worth $120,000 then its not good.
Now you could say that lake quality benifits everyone but the lake front owners were the ones polluting the lake with their old, small and leaky septic systems, slug discharges from the septic tanks during their weekend party crowds, raking leaves and grass into the lake, and nitrogen fertalizers from their well manicured lawns.
I agree it was a crock!
Didn't they make everybody upgrade their systems, what, 10 years ago? I know my place had a brand new shiny set-up that was filled in by the mandate of Glorious Leader, whoever that may be.
I mean, I know they tried to sell us all on the cleanliness bill of goods, but I know I didn't buy it.
No they didn't make everyone upgrade their system, just the ones that failed or added declared bedrooms.
Ah, I wasn't entirely sure what the deal was with the cluster systems.
What bi-pass?
Well nobody may use the language nor is there even any road signs marking them as any bi-pass in either instance but that maybe at least we locals know/meant if you want to avoid a bunch of bumper-to-bumper traffic on a hot summers day that to the east of North Wayne Street off Williams Street/827 road to Fremont there is the new bridge road at the Angola YMCA that can be taken and then there's Wohlert Street just to the west of North Wayne Street at either Mill Street or Harcourt Road is what was meant.
