The city was paying for the softball players to have night games? Please tell me how that is legit.
I read where the city had saved $18,000 from the electric bill due to DST. How about paving the main road in and out of the park? the dust coming from there is terrible! Everyone who lives anywhere close to that can attest to that. Please call the mayors office at 347-0352 and express your concerns.![]()

Kendallville's park and recreation department manages the sports complex, including the lights. They collect user fees from the leagues to pay for facility maintenance, lights, etc. The story on the savings from lights is here:

My minivan is pretty covered with dust from driving to Little League games. However, I can't see you being able to pave that long road back to the fields plus the big parking lot for $18,000.
My point is that there are other solutions to dust control. Such as chemicals that are eco friendly and would keep the dust down. Before forming an opinion, go out to the park during softball games and observe the dust cloud. The car washes and power washing companies gotta love it.
My kids love it. They can write "Go Angels" (their baseball team) in the dust on the van after every game.
One thing that hasn't helped is that it's so dry in general. If we got some good rain you probably wouldn't have nearly as bad a problem with the dust.
It would be nice to have the road paved, not only because of the dust but because there are some pretty rough patches back to the fields. But at this point I'm happy that the fields are open.
They could cut the dust down by opening a road from Bixler lake to the park. Then we wouldn't have to drive down the crappy allen chapel road.
