As I read the story in this morning's paper, it sounds like a classic case of choosing suicide by police. Very unfortunate for all concerned. The aging process is hard on many people, looking at the condition of the home he lived in, his financial abilities were in trouble.

Good Police also had their own lives at risk in this situation. Very sad ending to 73 years of life.

I was thinking the same thing, Helen...'suicide by cop'. Mental illness and tough times are not a good combo. When I saw the house I also noticed the horrible condition. Very unfortunate for everyone involved.

    Very sad outcome.

Glad to see that no civillian or officer was hurt, it could have been a lot worse for everyone involved. It is unfortunate that a man's life ended but it appears that his own actions brought that fate upon himself.

A long gun would/could do alot of damage and the bullett can go a long ways................

Not haveing been there in person I can't say for sure. But I too believe this to have been a case of suicide by police officer. The 2 things that always bother me the most about these sorts of instances are: first off no one (especially the suicide) seems to care at all that the officer will have to live with that for the rest of his (or her in many cases) life. While none of the friends, neighbors or relatives who had a chance to help the "victom" ever seems to feel any guilt over their faliure to help.
In my opinion this is a symptom of the sickness of our currant society.
