Yet another example of a mouth-breating idiot who lacks the capacity to make a distinction between sports and real life...

Kudos to the injured family for keeping ther cool! I am not so sure I could have done that! Kudos to both teams for stepping up with their offers of help. MAJOR hisses to security..does the security stop after the game is over?? I wouldn't think it should especially since alcohol was obviously a factor here. The jerk that tackled the kid probably doesn't even remember it if he was that drunk, IF he does, I hope he suffers terrible nightmares and flashbacks to that moment for the rest of his life and bears an extreme burden of guilt for traumatizing such an innocent child.

One of the guys on ESPN radio made an insightful comment about this jerk. He said that people who don't get it, don't get that they don't get it. The guy is probably proud of himself and will be bragging to and high-fiving his buddies...

Why is this the fault of security? Do you know what crowds are like after games? Can they be everywhere? That's like blaming the police for your house getting robbed because they weren't standing in your driveway. The family didn't report the incident to security or the police. They wrote an article for the paper about it.

Security can't be everywhere at once, that's for sure. It's sad that it happened, but the blame simply lies with the moron who tackled the kid. What's even sadder, to me, is that a whole slew of "reasonable" witnesses didn't jump on the guy and smack him around. It was Cleveland though- something in the water I suppose....

I remember being at Heinz Field in 2004 or 2005 to watch the Steelers play the Jets. After the game, which Pittsburgh won, we were walking down the ramps to leave the stadium and there was one lone guy wearing a Jets jersey in a see of drunk Steelers fans. The entire walk down the ramps was filled with this guy chanting J-E-T-S Jets, Jets Jets and all of us shouting Steelers chants back to him. No violence. No threat of violence. Just good-natured teasing. If some moron had done what the guy in Cleveland did, I am confident he would have had a different outcome...

Yes I DO know what crowds are like after games, been there done that. I would suggest that you reread what I wrote, I didn't NOT in any way implicate that security was at fault, just that I felt they were lacking in having a presence in the parking area. I know they can't be everywhere at once but a few of them COULD have been policing the parking lot instead of 15-20 of em hangin around the coaches and another 10-15 hanging around the locker rooms. Yes, the family wrote to the newspaper about it, an option I stated that I didn't think I could do, I personally would have either yelled for security while sitting on the jerk or ripped the jerk's head off (cuz I am violent like that). JFYI my house HAS been robbed, I did NOT blame the police because I am wise enough to know that they can't be everywhere at once and there are times when something is more important than a robbery. I DID take advantage of the advice the officers gave and made my home more secure.

How do you know they didn't have a presence in the parking area? How do you know they were all hanging around the coaches and locker rooms and not focused on the crowds? I work for a security contractor and that's just not how event security it handled. Concern for the public is a primary focus. The only person I know of who has 10 -20 security officers around him would be Presidnet Obama. Coaches and players who choose to have security will hire their own, individually. Event securitiy is there for the event and the general public.

OK, I didn't say they were ALL hanging around the coaches and locker rooms. I don't care if you DO work for a security contractor, not every contractor has the apparent high standards of the one you work for. I watched the game and I know there were a LOT of security in and around players and coaches, as is expected. Obviously the security wasn't making an obvious presence known in the parking lot. As to security being there for the general public..some places yeah I agree they are, I attended an event this past week where the security presence was mainly watching the show and didn't heed an usher's request to handle a bunch of drunk women who were spilling beer all over *general public* patrons, dancing up and down the aisles, and taking off their clothes. If you would like to argue more then go look in a mirror. I am voicing my opinion in a manner that should not offend any one if ya don't like it don't read it.

Good ol' Cowherd*. The guy who says that $250,000/year isn't all that much money. I wish they'd replace him with Kuselius.

Cleveland Browns fans are notorious. Remember the game where the fans pelted the field with beer bottles? Cleveland Browns. A couple of years ago, the Colts went to play the Browns. My buddy went as well. He said the IHOP was full of drunken Browns fans at 9am.

What I want to know is, where is the video of this incident? Even though Browns fans are unrepetant jagoffs, I have a feeling that this guy was so drunk he probably stumbled into the kid. Drunkenly coming up from behind to hurl an insult, falling into the kid. Drunks fall. I just have an incredibly hard time believing a man would tackle an 8 year old for wearing the opponents jersey.

*I have a serious dislike for Cowherd. He contradicts himself constantly and takes any opportunity he can to slam the midwest. His arguments fail basic logic tests, riddled with strawmen and post hoc ergo proctor hoc. For example, in a recent diatribe about how boring the rust belt is, he said NBA teams in those cities will never compete with big coastal cities, because players want to go to those other cities. Fine, except the LA Clippers have stunk for as long as the LA Lakers have been good. Likewise, the Knicks are awful. It was just a stupid thing to say. He does this constantly, shaping theories to match his low opinions of people and places. The only good thing about listening to Colin Cowherd is the occasional guy who works for ESPN who will call in to his show simply to point out how ridiculous he is being. Herbstreet does this often, and it is glorious when he does. Anyone else who disagrees with Cowherd will be labeled a "meatball" and derided mercilessly while a cuckoo sound effect plays.

Colin Cowherd is the Rush Limbaugh of sports talk.

I feel bad for Art. The old stadium was so dilapidated that the mens room above Modell's office was leaking onto his desk. So Art says, "gimme a new stadium or I'm moving the team". The city refused. So he moved the team. Soon after, that team won the superbowl. Also soon after, Cleveland built a new stadium. The city played chicken unnecessarily and lost, and Modell takes the blame.

It wasn't that simple (nothing ever is), but I'm in the camp that blames Cleveland as much as Art Modell for that.
