Wow! A $30,000 bond for putting salt out? You are right Torget....something more to this story. I do remember he was feuding with the City over a planter the City had placed infront of the theatre. This story is taking an extreme turn.
OK, I might have missed it in the paper but can anyone tell me what is going on between the city of Angola and the Strand? I read about them arresting the owner for puting salt out, and his bail was $30,000???? You've got to be kidding me right? There is something more going on here. The kid in Butler who was caught attempting to rape his 11 yr old step sister only has a $10,000 bail.
What's wrong with this picture???
There has been new wording on the Strand's marquee for a few days now saying something like "City Halls downtown planning project violates fire and safety codes for theaters" I haven't seen anymore about this in the paper, but again, I might have missed it. If there hasn't been anything, my question is Why Not? There is definitely some story here.

I found this which explains the whole $30,000 bond issue a bit better than what I remembered.

Watch out!! Big Brother is watching you via a camera in a city hall window!!!
good article torget. i like this part......
even the police chief thinks it's stupid. All this – constant video surveillance, $30,000 in bonds, a bunch of Class B misdemeanor charges against the owner of a downtown business open for 37 years – over what appears to be oriental grasses.
“It does sound silly, doesn’t it?” Hamblen said.
Yes it does, and a little outrageous. Feeding the birds is criminal mischief? Salting the sidewalk with the wrong material a crime? Stepping on a plant is a crime?
When it’s all over, it will be interesting to see how much this will cost compared with the original beautification project.![]()
it's good to see the city spending valuable time and resources to catch the real bad guys.i wonder if they had to bust out the SRT and kick his door in to serve the warrant.

I think the fact that they went to arrest him just as he was preparing to open for business speaks volumes about the motives and intentions of the people running city hall, not to mention them targeting him by setting up the camera.
My opinion....They're nothing more than a bunch of nitwit bullies who have let whatever power they think they have go to their heads. Using intimidation tactics against one business to keep the rest in line.
I do not have any affiliation with any business in downtown Angola and it's been years since I've been to a movie, but I may just go see one at the Strand just to show and give my support.
The longer I live in Angola the more I am convinced it is run by a group of morons.

Someone please refresh my memory if I am incorrect. I'm thinking that Kendallville spent money in recent years to remove these concrete planters because people were using them for reasons such as ash trays, trash recepticles, etc rather than respecting the plants that they were intended to grow?

No, we the property owners removed them because we went to hanging planters, and we didn't need them anymore. It is true people used them for their trash, but a secondary reason was to make it easier for our snow removers. trash really didn't enter into it, and you can't stop people from being slobs. By the way, kendallville as a city never spends money on any of this, it is done by the EID.
coming to you live from police state "Kville"
Not true. I have yet to vote for a candidate in Angola or Steuben county who has won a race, with the exception of Hickman. The idea that we are somehow complicit because we elected these bozos is silly. You are given a choice in elections to vote for an evil liar or a lying evildoer. You're ****** if you vote for either or if you don't vote at all. The system and the process are flawed. Good people don't win elections.

Bit of an over reaction from the city, but what Dana was doing was obviously wrong as well. He should have been fined, not arrested. Dumping popcorn in the planter is an obvious lie. Ripping out plants...trampling them... throwing cigarette butts in there... he was obviously being destructive.
