How surprising it is to see how Republican county politicians complain about paying taxes and how we have too much federal government involvement, but have no trouble applying for federal government monies to build a new hospital or improve roads! What a joke!

As recently as 5 yrs ago, I considered myself to be an 'Independent' voter. Observing the Republicans obvious agenda to favor private businesses and large corporations while disregarding the needs of our nation's working class for their collective barganing rights has left me little choice. I will not vote Republican in my foreseeable future.

Unfortunately, our nation's businesses have already determined the advantage to their bottom line to 'outsource' these positions to India & China, etc where they are not required to offer health insurance and other basic benefits (vacations, sick days). Slave labor has always been cheaper. Remember what almost divided our nation in the Civil War...it was the advantage the South had with their cheap slave labor. (Yes...I know...just one issue...however a LARGE issue).

Buddy Boy ...I just saw this was your first post on FP. My first words should have been 'Welcome to the forum'! Did not notice that you were new until after my response. I love seeing more from our community getting involved in these discussions.

Those federal monies come from taxes and fees paid local citizens. Would you recommend that local government let other places get the benefit of those taxes?

My point is that Republicans complain about paying federal taxes but have no problem spending this tax money for their benefit.

How are tax monies for roads and hospitals benefiting the Republicans?
I didn't know about it until you did and I can't comment on a pending case!!!!!

Always remember the maxim that says that government spending that benefits me is acceptable, but if it does not benefit me, it is pork. [See placards that read: "Get your government hands off my Medicare."]

Most of the elected politicians are Republicans making decisions for their constituents who are basically Republicans. Check out election results so you understand the demographics of Steuben County.

It's not just Steuben County, but rather this entire area is strongly Republican. I find it safer to not speak my mind at work or at social gatherings because of the intense emotions and backlash I receive. My family does know my thinking and they aren't too keen on it either ... but they are stuck with me. :-) DaConsul had it right...people will post their thoughts when they can do so annonmously. I am guilty as charged!

At any rate, BB, I have no objections to our tax monies being spent on roads, schools and other public needs. When our elected politicians decide to give major tax breaks to targeted corporations.....my internal radar goes off.

Show me some specifics, (evidence), to support your original post.

Read the Republican...Cameron Hospital applying for federal money to expand and officials applying for federal monies to work on Wendell Jacob Ave. Pay attention to articles stating where monies will come. These politicians are mostly Republicans.

You still haven't explained how this benefits Republicans and not the entire community, unless Republicans are the only ones that can use the hospital and drive on Wendell Jacob Ave.

What elected politicians oversee Cameron Hospital?

Wendell Jacob Ave article shows Angola applying for the funds. When did Mayor Hickman become a republican?

Cameron Hospital is an independent private hospital that has no elected officials overseeing it. They are applying for federal loans from the US Dept of Agriculture to help provide the funds to build the new hospital. Since it provides emergency assistance in a rural area, the hospital can apply for loans from USDA. It has a board of directors and an administrator. No elected officials oversee it. In order to build its new hospital is needed the vacation of some lot lines and city streets. Cameron had to go ask the city for permission for that; just like any private individual would have had to do.

Therefore Cameron Hospital seeking federal funds has nothing to do with Steuben County republican officials.

Thanks Thorman, I was wondering when someone was actually going to tell it like it really is.

The responses to my original premise about Republican politicians and big business supporters, ie hospital board members and the medical community applying for federal taxes monies misses the point. No sense in continued response to these people who do not get it. No surprise, this is Steuben County. If a monkey ran on the Republican ticket in disguise, it would get elected.

That explains a lot about our country during the early to mid 2000's...

Lets see, you were using the example of a Democratic Mayor applying for federal monies to complain about Republican politicians being hypocrites.

You are correct. I don't get the point. But don't blame me, blame the faulty premise that you posted.

Though I do have to say that if you were running against the monkey, I would have to give serious consideration to the monkey.
