Thread: Angola has a new truck stop?

I didn’t know a new truck stop was built in the Wal-Mart parking lot? It’s so nice having semis parked there so they can make Angola look even more trashy, plus they are a big help when trying to see if traffic is coming so you can leave the parking lot.

Great topic...Some of those trucks aren't even there for a short-time rest, some sit for days on end...I believe it is standard policy (???) for all WalMarts to allow trucks or travel trailers to camp out as long as they want...and they are a traffic hazard, particularly when you have those clowns that criss-cross the parking lot instead of going up or down the appropriate lanes....All in all, just one more reason not to shop at WalMart....

Auburn's got a pretty good collection of trucks too. I'm just glad most of them park on the end down by the nursery and season area.

This is true. I don't know if it is 'policy' per se, but Wal-Mart's are traditionally known to be RV-friendly... I'm guessing the logic being that they have huge parking lots, and the RVers are more likely to do their shopping inside... I guess the same applies to truckers too.

Where would you like the trucks to park? I don't think you realize how many trucks are on the road. I think it's great that Wal-Mart,Meijer, and Rural King allow truckers to use their lots, its shows support for the blue-collar worker.

Sometimes there are reasons why they don't park at truck stops or rest areas, perhaps the other options were full. Or their allowed DOT time was up and they had to pull over.

Since there are more Wal-Marts than truck stops maybe they should be in the truck stop business, they do everything else.

As for the trucks making Angola look trashy, I've lived in Angola for over 40 years and believe me there are worst things that have trashed Angola!

Short term, say 10 hours to reset their hours of service, I can see, although there should be a more designated or organized area like the one in Auburn, not so haphazard. But again, some of the same trucks sit there for DAYS ON END.... "troublesome one",you had me falling off the chair with that line. Classic!! Kmart had the blue light special, how 'bout a redlight special. For those who do not know what a "lot lizard" is, ask any trucker. Perhaps at your friendly neighborhood WalMart!!!

My god, what is wrong with those idiots?! Seriously, like there's not enough morons on the road, they bring their show to the parking lot. I am so sick of those people.

They also must not be able to read maps because they can never find where the toll road is located, they seem to get lost and take 20 e/w.

Though there's an choice I liked that one Yrufat. It got some truth out about the matter. With all those Reality Shows we be facing some reality of our own here in lake country. As one whose Military job was supply shortly after graduation at good ole HHS in 70 (and yes, though not the only war I was in,I've got an having been there record a few times-Vietnam) there never was then, nor now enough credit given to the workforce back home. Whoever you may have been asking ‘Why Are You Fat’ may not understand the calories they just put on may have just a few minutes before that been delivered ANYWHERE here in Angola/Steuben County but while parked for WHATEVER the reason at the new Angola Truck Stop. It's one of those YOU CAN'T TOUCH THIS matters…the home front supply chain and the war front supply chain are one. And if that sucker should ever snap we'd all be in deep doo-doo! So hooray to Drivers of the workforce back home too and maybe when one would tailgate another rig by not yielding to others at the Mound here in Angola instead of going into an fit of road rage or flying a hand gesture of which for the either a Cop could make an arrest for and besides pats on the back are deserved for yielding shows defensive driving to something that could push any regular vehicle right out of the Angola City limits sideways and hardly put a scratch on their bumpers only proves defensing training works so why aren't there just more courtousy waves going on? Their RELAY is more important than most of the RELAYS/WHATEVER reasons of others on the road much of the time, anyway.

You would not have a Wal-Mart to shop at if it weren't for those "Trashy Truckers". Think about that one.......I agree there should be some kind of organization in the parking lot so they don't obstruct anyones vision, but they are not anymore of any eyesore than the rest of the town!!

No chip on my shoulder. I come from a working class family. My HUSBAND is self employed as a Farmer and lots of our income comes from trucking whether it be with his Semi or Dumptruck....And you must not be paying much attention when you drive down Wayne street with all of the abandoned businesses and such!

Oh, your HUSBAND drives a semi. Yeah, I was way off the mark.

Either way, thanks again for insulting my town. I see a nice place to live, as its always been. Not the ghetto you speak of. Maybe I spend too much time paying attention to the road, trying to dodge lakers with broken turn signals.

Actually I wan't calling the truckers trashy, they work hard and we need them, I was saying seeing trucks scatered all over the parking lot looks trashy. Heck, let people store their boats there for the winter, the more stuff in the parking lot the better!!

An earlier poster was right...put them in a designated area and stripe the lot so it's not hapahzard.

The trashiness issue all boils down to the steady erosion of personal and community responsibility. In the not-too-distant past, people took pride in their property and kept it mowed, trimmed and painted. Now the city has to have weed control and rental ordinances to codify decent behavior.

Please don't post that "that durn guvernmint cain't tell me whut to do on my proprty." If that's the case, I'll find out where you live, move in next door and park my '66 Chevelle that I've been fixin' to run the last 5 years at Angola Motor Speedway in the front yard with the engine hangin' from the tree.

    Now that's what I call rose-colored glasses.

I still think it's reality. It's being maintained not just in newer developments like Herrington Heights and Ridgeview, but also in the single-family homes around TSU and older subdivisions like Reddington Heights.

Economic status does not prevent you from keeping your lawn mowed and your yard looking presentable. I'm not looking for Home & Garden TV mind you, just put the rusted out Weber in the backyard if you're not going to throw it out.
