So what do we know?

As of right now (1:38 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17), we know that every football team in the area is amped up for the season, the promise of things to come.

But what do we really know? Right now, nothing...but that all changes tonight.

We see if the Knights' speed is for real. We see if West Noble, Fremont, Central Noble and Prairie Heights can battle back toward respectability, and if they're capable of even more.

We see if Fairfield's going to be as dominant in the NECC as they were last year, or if teams like Churubusco, Lakeland and Eastside will step up. We see if Angola can live up to its potential as the big dog in the conference.

We see if coach Hummer can take the Barons back to the promised land.

So right now, we know little. In about eight hours, we'll know more. How much more? That's to be determined!

As much as I hate to say it, the real race probably will be for second place. It's going to take a mighty team to knock off Fairfield. Busco's team is loaded with Juniors that when in Middle School lost only one game in two years.................that one game was to Fairfield who is loaded with their Junior class as well. Both teams have great Seniors but it's the Junior class that has the greatest numbers.

Perhaps. But, keep in mind that Fairfield jumped up very big, very early against a young Central Noble team (21-0 lead after four offensive plays).

Sounds like 'Busco did a lot of good things against Fremont, and Lakeland went very conservative against Heights in the second half.

Granted, the Falcons will be tough to beat this year, and they're the champs until someone knocks them off. But we'll see.

Looks like West Noble could make a step back toward competitiveness this season, based on what we saw against Angola Friday night.

West Noble is my "sleeper" team. They will win some big games this year and next year. Again, like Busco and Fairfield they have some good juniors.
