I had no problem with the concept when I started hitting the big numbers. I love it when my friends and I start talking about writing checks to the IRS around April 15. They start complaining. I Tell them you ought to fell good about it. I respond with how I feel when I write the check or send in my estimated payments. It means you are making more money.

Here is some stats from Aug 2010 Pew Research Poll on the religious beliefs of President Obama. Seems like its not only Republicans that think the President is not a christian.

You are correct that these false beliefs extend beyond the Republican base. But for a sizeable number of Republicans, it is dogma.

The stats for Democrats and Republicans are as expected, but what I find to be a better indicator is the Independents where 66% either believe he is a muslim or don't know his religious affiliation.

None of these stats should be "expected." They are false statements. They should give one pause about the misinformation that exists in the nation.

The stats reflect the numbers of the uninformed Americans we have.

    Helen,

Can you positively state President Obama's religious beliefs?

What makes them false statements? Is it your opinion or do you have a source?

What I meant by "expected" is the responses by Democrats and Republicans are based on their individual ideology where the ideology of Independents plays less and less in forming their opinions.

I would be the first to say that many Amerericans are not racists and bigots. But a substantial number are. What else could account for the visceral hatred of Obama by a large number of Americans? He governs from a generally centrist position. The ACA is a warmed over Republican modeled healthplan from the 1990s. There have been no major foreign policy and military setbacks. Many say the US is as divided now as it has been since the Civil War. Why. The differences were palpable and clear in 1861. The differences are far less in 2012, but they are magnified by hate radio and extremists.

Tell me, dude. Say it. Tell me that Obama is a Muslim. Your tactics are well worn. I will not even dignify the implication that you suggest.

Obama has said that he is a Christian. I take him at his word.

The response I expected. You tactics are also well worn by going on the personal attack by accusing me that I think Obama is a Muslim because you cannot dispute my suppositions. All I am looking for are facts that they are false statements not what you think of me.

So that puts both of us as the uniformed because I don't know either. I have learned a long time ago not to believe the words of politicians.

I am with you, Helen, he says he a Christian and I too take him at his word. I wouldn't care if he was a Muslim, but many religious bigots apparently would.

And John McCain takes him at his word. I wonder if the Republican nominee for president will take him at his word or stoke the brimfire?

I did not attack you personally. I asked you to state what you imply, that Obama is a Muslim. And you are not looking for "facts." You are looking to heavily imply what you probably do not want to come out and say. I that regard, your response is reminiscent of Rick Parry's. When asked if Obama was a Muslim, he implied that he was by not stating what Obama himself has said.

It is really beyond comprehension that in the 21st century in the nation that claims it citizens are the best informed in the world that our president's religion is even relevant.

When someone says: "Tell me, dude. Say it. Tell me that Obama is a Muslim" you are accusing me of thinking that Obama is a muslim and nowhere can you find that I said it or even implied it. Like the President you will just have to take my word for it when I said in another post that "I don't know."
