(ANGOLA) - A Trine University student was arrested Thursday morning after materials pertaining to the production of methamphetamine were found in the student villas in the 400 block of West Park Avenue. A university spokesperson says a campus security officer called Angola Police at about 10:30pm Wednesday night after smelling a chemical like odor. Further investigation led to the arrest of 20-year-old John Blevins of Auburn. He was booked at the Steuben County Jail on Class D felonies for Maintaining a Common Nuisance and Illegal Possession of Precursors. The discovery led to the evacuation of 18 students. They were taken to the University Center. Some later went to a local hotel, others stayed with family and friends. They were allowed back into the building on Thursday morning. Angola Police were assisted by the Steuben County Sheriffs Department and Indiana State Police with the investigation.

I feel so sad when I read of such young individuals getting mixed up in this meth thing. Unlike weed, the pictures I've seen of long term users of this meth reflects very heavy health damages being done to those users. As a young college student, this fellow has most likely damaged his ability to continue college also. These bad decisions rarely bring good endings.

i just updated the original post. now they say he is an auburn man instead of a trine university student.

However, the story does say that they took his "roommates" to Cameron Hospital. So was he a Trine University student or not?

the paper says he was, but i can't read the whole story because i don't subscribe.

i'm dying to know if he was majoring in chemical engineering.

Todays article in the KPC news reports that he is/was a Trine student. It lists him as a student. I'm not certain, but, my belief is that if he is found guilty of this crime, he will not be allowed to continue to be a student?

Michael, I've looked at some of the pictures of those arrested for meth labs. It does not appear to me that they are chemical engineering prospects.

Life is such a precious gift we have all been given. For those who are also benefiting from the privilege of receiving a college education, you have been twice blessed. I do believe that life is to be lived well and enjoyed fully, however, to recklessly squander the blessings we have been given is a sin unto ourselves.

I sincerely hope this young man finds his way through this mess (I do believe it is possible), yet he will need to work much harder for his future blessings now.

but if by some slim, ironic, hilarious, chance he was.....you would have to wonder if he "acquired" any of the chemicals from the school's lab.

These guys typically repeat, repeat, repeat. He'll never be a productive member of society.

Tater, This response of yours is most negative. Being a Christian, I would expect a more positive response from you?

Yes...he has some dues to pay to society. He most likely will pay these in the form of time served in our prison system. Yet, because I believe in the power of redemption, I believe this young man has the ability to regain his life. YES...it will now be more difficult...yet..not impossible.

I'll bet you that any time he's given will be conisidered served after his trial....if it even reaches that point. These guys don't serve much time which is why they repeat offend.

To start off, half of you saying he is going to be a repeat offender. Talking negative about an individual you know nothing about. John was one of my good friends in High School always made honor roll. And was always there to lend a helping hand with assignments. John is not a bad person by any means. He had a lot of problems one of which was depression and the longing to belong and fit in. He will get past this and I know he will turn his life around. So to be blunt and excuse my language but before you start talking **** and making negative comments. Get your facts straight. It's individuals like you that make me lose hope fore society.
