Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

Because I do not believe you have the urge to hug Blue and because I do not believe that Blue assumes the role of 'King of the Fence Post', I thought perhaps it would be helpful to share the definition of 'Snide' with you BigBass.
Webster's defination of 'Snide' is as follows:
1
a : FALSE, COUNTERFEIT
b : practicing deception : DISHONEST <a snide merchant>
2
: unworthy of esteem : LOW <a snide trick>
3
: slyly disparaging : INSINUATING <snide remarks>
I do not believe we have lost members because of sincere and honest debates on here. I believe we have lost members because of insults and sarcasms which do not lead to constructive dialog. (Just my opinion)

You are correct BigBass, we lost many members that had nothing to do with anything you have posted. I believe if our members would follow the rules you posted in Rules of an Intelligent Conversation, our FP would be a more interesting and stimulating place to visit and exchange our thoughts. My point is that for us to build to that quality of conversations and exchanges of thought, it doesn't work if the Rules of an Intelligent Conversation are only being exercised by one side of the conversation.
It just so happened you had responded to Blue with remarks that I do consider 'snide' and it worked well as an example. I tried to point that out in my response. Absolutely, I do not hold you responsible for all the difficulties the FP has experienced in the past few months. Personally, I know I have been guilty of letting my frustration get out of hand on here. Many of our existing members and past members are guilty of the same.
I like your list of Rules for an Intelligent Conversation. It just works best if we all try to abide by them.![]()

So you are fine with agreeing to disagree, and you will accept that just because someone doesn't see things your way or believe the ideology that you believe they are no less of a person or group of people than you? I think that is all anyone wants Helen. Once a horse like religion(of which I am Agnostic) or abortion( of which I believe it is a woman's right to choose) or whether or not you like Miley's new hair cut has been beat to absolute death, it's time to bury it. People are not going to change their political affiliation or religious beliefs because of something they read on the Fence Post. BTW, I am disgusted with the way the government uses the media to turn us against each other.
Wow,glad I was doing an do-over this week-end of last week-end and not a Monitor over this one because to me it would be like hosting ferris wheel rides at our upcoming DeKalb County fair that passes through the haunted house.
Howdy Bigbass...

BigBass, I agree to disagree in cases where those who I disagree with are not forcing their beliefs upon my life.
ie Any religious group forcing their beliefs to be taught in our public schools or influencing any laws that I am required to abide by, I feel the need to continue my objections. The reason these well worn topics are not going away is because these efforts are still impacting individual rights in our country. Religious beliefs are the basis behind objections to same sex marriage.
I will never try to require another person to share my agnostic belief, yet we have our currency, our State issued license plates with 'In God we Trust' on them. Because I am an agnostic, not an atheist, the later does not anger me as much as it does those who are atheist. Yet, I get it when they are angered by this. I support all religious rights of all individuals until they are imposed on the whole of our population. My intent is not to change anyone's religious beliefs because of what I say on FP, I do expect them to consider when their religious beliefs are infringing on mine or others.

That's fair enough to me Helen. I was surprised to see that when I ordered my new plates online, the default plate was the "In God we Trust" plate. It took me a few minutes to find the blue and white plate option, but I did find it. I honestly think the blue and white one should be the default and the other one should be a specialty plate and cost an extra $25.00 like the rest of the specialty plates.
If this goes over too many heads, as God as my witness, I'll never post here again either.....

Look no furher than who owns the media, and who you're not allowed to criticise, EVER. That should be red flag #1.

I was literally in stitches the whole way through that article.
It is the funniest thing that I have read anywhere in quite a while!
Sad thing is that it also is so true in reference to the election mentality
of the majority of those involved. Maybe we would be better served by
all becoming puxatawny phil's for the next 10 weeks or so and come out
of our burrows just prior to election day somewhat clear minded.
Perhaps not!
