    Default Neighborhood Watch groups forming

Some Garrett residents want to form neighborhood watch groups. Would neighbors take the time to organize their blocks and make a phone list to help keep crime from their streets?

suec: I would encourage Garrett citizens to pursue a Watch Program. We, in Ligonier spent a lot of time organizing our Watch Program. Gary Cox our Police Detective was very helpful. Since Goshen already had a working program we had their leadership meet with us to get started. Their program is still active to date.

Although we no longer have an active group - mostly due to not having enough leadership - it is my plan ( if elected for Mayor or not) to try and reinstate our program. We still have our "Watch City" signs up at the entry ways into Ligonier. The signs alone are a deterrent to crime.

There are so may benefits to this program. It involves all ages. Provides educational resources that reach out to the whole community. It protects our greatest asset -- family and friends.
Although it takes some really dedicated team leaders and workers, it provides unmeasurable results.

We still benefit from lessons and tips for safety shared in our group.
This program is a great way to "grow community spirit". I wish you the best!! patty fisel

neighborhood watch?? I went to school here and I can tell you that Garrett people keep pretty much to themselves unless they are wanting to stir up trouble. They are "clique-y"...

I lived in K'ville for 14 years after graduating and marrying and my neighborhood there was refreshing and fun! I moved back here a couple years ago so my kids could attend my Alma Mater and realized almost immediately why I moved away 2 months after graduation... when you wave at someone, they look at you like "Why did you wave at me?"

I also am a life long Garrett resident except for 10 years spent away and school and then working. I moved back to raise my kids around family and in a small community instead of Indy where I was. I find Garrett-ites to be friendly people. My kids get very irritated when we go somewhere and I end up talking to "too many people" and take too much time. I like the fact that I know the families of new friends my kids meet. We have an awesome school who places just as much emphasis on academics as arts and athletics. We are the first school in our area to look out for our kids with drug testing. I find it hard to believe that people in Garrett don't know their neighbors and think many would welcome a neighborhood watch. When we formed our middle school parent group a few years ago, it was similar - we all watched out for each others kids.
