McCormick’s Creek State Park and the Friends of McCormick’s Creek group will host a series of wildflower events, April 21-22.
Highlights for the weekend include guided hikes through the park with park naturalists, a regional ecologist and guest leaders. There also will be an off-site visit to Owen-Putnam State Forest to hike with the district forester and observe blooming trees and flowers. A full program schedule is available at dnr.IN.gov/dnr/parklake/2978.htm.
At 7:30 p.m. April 21, in the Canyon Inn, Michael Homoya will give a keynote address on wildflowers and ferns of Indiana forests. Homoya has been a botanist with the DNR Division of Nature Preserves since 1982 and is the author of the recently published book, “Wildflowers and Ferns of Indiana Forests.” This book will be available for purchase through the Friends of McCormick’s Creek group, and an autograph session will follow the talk.
All programs are free after the standard park admission of $5 per vehicle for Indiana residents and $7 per vehicle for non-residents. Guests are encouraged to come for one or all programs. The Canyon Inn restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner.
