FORT WAYNE — The Indiana Department of Natural Resource’s Division of Fish & Wildlife will stock 400 rainbow trout in Spy Run Creek at Fort Wayne’s Franke Park Friday, marking the 26th anniversary of a project to get youngsters excited about fishing.
Spy Run Creek will remain closed to fishing until 6 a.m. Saturday, when Indiana’s stream trout-fishing season opens.
The trout measure about 10 inches long and are grown at the DNR Curtis Creek Trout Rearing Station in LaGrange County. Trout fishing will be available on a half-mile section of Spy Run Creek from the parking lot of the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo upstream to the confluence with the Lowther-Newhaus Ditch.
Adult anglers will need a fishing license and trout stamp. Anglers age 17 and younger do not need a fishing license or trout stamp. The daily catch limit per angler is five trout.
