Noble County offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities. The following is a listing of some of the activities available.

Animals/Zoos

A home to rescued, rehabilitated and retired animals. Guided tours available. School field trips or groups of 20 or more can call the park to schedule an appointment. Regular season is May through October, Saturdays through December.

A year-round outdoor ministry center including summer camps and retreats, lodge and cabin rentals and outdoor education programs.

Chain O’ Lakes State Park

Located off S.R. 9, south of Albion, the park offers camping, picnic grounds, hiking trails, fishing, cross-country skiing and nature center. Rentals for canoes, row boats and paddle boats are also available.

A 25,000-square-foot facility with a 42-by-75-foot heated pool, whirlpool, gymnasium, two racquetball courts, a preschool, and a fitness center. Youth activities offered throughout the year include: swim lessons, T-ball, soccer, flag football, basketball, softball, preschool gym and swim, summer day camp and a competitive swim team. Adult activities include: fitness classes, swim lessons, lap swim, gym and adult leagues in wallyball, basketball and volleyball. Family Fun Nights are held four times each year. Family and individual memberships available.

Bixler Lake Park and Campground on Kendallville’s east side offers fishing piers, supervised beach with sand volleyball court, playground areas, ball field, duck pond, nature trails, birdwatching, nature programs, pavilions and basketball. On its west side are a boat launch and tennis courts.

Sunset Park can be accessed from Drake Road or Weston Avenue. It offers basketball courts, softball diamonds, soccer fields, playground, shuffleboard courts and pavilion.

Youth Center on Iddings St. offers activities throughout the year including teen dances, Second Time Around euchre club, basket and craft classes, preschool, aerobics, indoor walking and other events. The center is available for rental for receptions, reunions or other special events.

The center in Kenney Park has a full gym and two fitness rooms, as well as a public meeting room with kitchen facilities. Youth and adult programs also available.

An environmental learning center of Goshen College, this 1,150-acre complex of fields, forests, bogs and meadows on the west side of High Lake offers hiking, birdwatching, plant studies, cross-country skiing, ice skating, group visits, class visits, programs and annual festivals.

Located on the shore of Sylvan Lake, Rome City, the home of author and nature photographer Gene Stratton-Porter features beautiful gardens, the wild forest of Limberlost North and guided tours of a cabin.

Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Cabin tours on the hour, Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This unique museum is home to several hundred radios and other equipment. It offers a look at American history using the development of radios as a timeline. Great for groups and school outings.

Old Jail Museum
