CENTRAL NOBLE

Central Noble Community School Corp. encompasses four townships in central Noble County — Albion, Jefferson, York and Noble.

Central Noble operates four schools within the district. In Albion are Central Noble High School, Central Noble Middle School and Albion Elementary School. Located in Wolf Lake is Wolf Lake Elementary School.

Combined enrollment in the four schools for the 2002-2003 school year is 1,498 students. The 2003 tax rate will be determined later in the year due to state-mandated reassessment. The projected tax rate is $1.8613 per $100 of assessed valuation, based on a total assessed valuation within the school district of $214,028,520.

The school corporation has 87 certified staff members and 103 classified employees. Central Noble’s five-member school board meets the second and fourth Tuesday nights of each month, usually at 7 p.m.

EAST NOBLE

Wayne, Orange, Allen and Swan townships in Noble County make up East Noble School Corp. Enrollment in the corporation is 3,863 for the 2002-2003 school year. 273 certified staff members and 251 non-teaching (classified) staff are employed by the corporation. The 2002 tax rate is 1.6701 cents per $100 assessed valuation. The assessed valuation is $695,874,180.

WEST NOBLE

The West Noble School Corp. was formed in 1960 through the incorporation of several local school systems, and encompasses the townships of Elkhart, Perry, Sparta and Washington.

The 2002-2003 school year enrollment is 2,493. For 2003, the unofficial, estimated tax rate was $1.98 per $100 assessed valuation, on total assessed valuation estimated at $321,620,843. (Figures still need to be finalized by the state.)
Plans were set in place in 2002 to bring water from the city of Ligonier to the West Noble school campus, along U.S. 33.

The project was to be completed in July of 2003.

West Noble operates four buildings: an elementary school in Ligonier, and elementary, middle and high schools at a central site three miles south of Ligonier on U.S. 33.
